We are so fucked as a society, we really are totally fucked. I thank God that I found something I enjoy doing that will last indefinitely, that I can go anywhere in the world and still do it, and earn enough to live reasonably. God help kids growing up this society now; if they don't inherit housing their best case scenario is that they'll work until they die.

This isn't even illegal, in fact it's being openly encouraged in the middle of a massive depression! No, sorry, there's been a 'recovery', I was forgetting.

Just what is the point in these UK wages? Looking at this the gov says basically you need 48k with a wife and kids, I wonder how much tax thats costing everyone to keep going and how much of a slice of 'welfare' the gov is subbing corporations to keep wages artificially low?

You lot even have to register for self assessment if you're over 50k WTF!!??! WTF is that? PAYE employees have to register for self assessment wtf???

Christ that country is messed up.

I found a link with the official rates of pay for prison workers, and it makes interesting reading. I know in the States corporations pay prisoners as little as 70 cents a day, it's not far off that sort of figure:

You can download the document here. It does say "minimum", though, so maybe the companies involved will voluntarily choose to pay them really well!
