Even as details of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP)—a so-called "free trade" agreement (FTA) between the US and more than a dozen Asian and Pacific Rim nations—remains veiled in secrecy and the focus of scrutiny, a new trade deal on the horizon has critics of the neoliberal global economy doubly worried
according to Lori Wallach who heads Public Citizen's TradeWatch, what corporations “consider trade irritants, we consider the most important consumer, health, environmental, privacy, financial stability safeguards on either side of the Atlantic.”

Trade agreements like this, she told the Times, are simply "an effort to achieve through trade what that they could not achieve through democratic processes domestically."
Critics of FTA's call this neoliberal globalization's "race to the bottom" in which corporations bully national governments to erase consumer, worker and environmental protections in order to maximize profits.

www.commondreams.org/headline/2013/09/13-1

Yum Brands, the owner of KFC, wants cheaper chicken wings, rumps and other assorted poultry parts.

Ocean Spray wants an easing of pesticide regulations.

DuPont wants greater protection of trade secrets.

Negotiations have barely begun for a potentially sweeping trade pact between the United States and Europe. But the lobbying is already well under way by corporations on both sides of the Atlantic. And the sometimes parochial nature of their demands is sure to further complicate the trade talks, which no one expects to proceed quickly or smoothly, given the geopolitics involved.

To be fair, he was telling he truth, he just meant that he'd renegotiate it by extending it.
The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

Hey I had an idea. Bear with me....

What if...
We got rid of all silly ideas of sovereignty and removed all the borders, leaving just one? Space.
It'd be great. All barriers to selling our stuff....gone. All obstructions to taking stuff from the Earth...gone.
We could get rid of all the competition and have just one giant company that could do the lot. Think how much more efficient it'd be.
We could make sure that all the different cultures played by the same rules. Our rules. Essentially we could have one giant Earth culture. Well, sort of. Obviously quite a few folk wouldn't be able to afford the same stuff we can and do the same stuff. It's a price worth paying though.

If Brand fails to lead us to the promised utopian land of anarchist hospitals I'd settle for this scenario. At least the whole globe's ire would be pointed in the same direction!

IMHO, in some essential cases, local self-sufficiency trumps whatever advantage global trade offers.

It isn't a very good idea to become too reliant on the movement of goods when one freak disaster or political upheaval means no more bread.

This means that trade protection is not always a bad thing logically.

Well as they kill the kids, drink the blood, pass parts of the heart around to eat, then strip naked as the juju juice makes them invisible and immune to bullets, just to type of unit to be up against :coffee:

Why are they on a diet?

It's really primarily driven by economic factors, which is what the original OP is about, not Liberia. Hence the fact that when Afro-Caribbean people settle in countries where there is less poverty they don't behave anything like the way you're describing.

However, as you still think we live in a system defined by nation states, you're going to be prone to misunderstanding many things.

No, what I didn't realise was wtf you were on about :D
So the people in the video do really bad shit in the name of some god and you want to know what I am going to do about it? Is that right? And where they are going to go?

And you ask these questions of me because I made a sarcasm laden post about Globocorp's intentions?

It really comes down to what I said previously:

sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/The-Community-Ch...tml?start=240#153537
If you put a two year-old Afro-Caribbean child, a two year-old child from the Asian subcontinent, a two year-old Caucasian child, a two year-old from East Asia, a two year-old Eskimo, and any other two year-old from any ethnic background that you care to name, they will just play together. It's only us sophisticated adults with our precious 'culture' that categorises people based on meaningless distinctions.

Obviously, but for the grace of God, any of us could have been brought up in those circumstances, and any of those people could have been brought up in our circumstances. If that was the case, we would be like them, and they would be like us. It’s as simple as that.

It’s only those that seek to justify their own prejudices that see such cultural distinctions as being meaningful, and indeed an inherent characteristic of certain people(s). This was the basis of a lot of the completely phony justification for the British Empire, and some other imperialism as well. Obviously there is no basis for it in reality, any more than asserting that phrenology is a good way of working out how intelligent someone is.

It does provoke the sort of spurious arguments that Bendoon used to put forward regarding white people being more intelligent than black people whereby he pointed to some map of the world in which average IQs were denoted. Obviously this map didn't take into consideration economic inequality, lack of education, indoctrination, etc, which is the real reason behind marked cultural differences. I'm sure there would still be some difference in a more egalitarian culture, but it would be statistically insignificant.

Anyone with any brain cells knows that we are all born the same, and are all inherently the same, or as close enough to being the same as to make any distinctions no more than pedantry.
The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

That sounds very Orwellian and with hints of Agenda 21 to me..... :conf:

As to the OP, I posted a link 'n' stuff here about the TTP and a.n. other that is also going through with Asian continent about 10 days ago.
I can't find it at the mo........but it's really serious shit and slipping under the radar very nicely for Amerikka and its corporations to have almost full global trading control. Forget Big Brother....Daddy has just stepped up to the plate.
