ake interpreter mandela A sign language interpreter is accused of making "meaningless gestures" as millions watched the Nelson Mandela memorial service.
South Africa's deaf federation has confirmed that an interpreter using sign language during the Mandela memorial was a "fake".

Concerns over the male interpreter had been raised by deaf people watching the service at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Bruno Druchen, national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa, said the unidentified man who was on stage alongside world leaders including US President Barack Obama, "was moving his hands around but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for".
South African parliament member Wilma Newhoudt, a member of the ruling party, also said the man communicated nothing with his hand and arm movement.

Both Mr Druchen and Ms Newhoudt are deaf.
Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages.

South African sign language covers all of the country's 11 official languages, according to the federation.

Nicole Du Toit, an official sign language interpreter who also watched the broadcast, said the man on stage was an "embarrassment".
She said: "It was horrible, an absolute circus, really really bad.

A United Nations report said that Africa was the only continent where poverty had increased in the past 20 years. South Africa's HDI figure was far higher in 1995, after nearly 50 years of apartheid, than it was in 2010 after 16 years of ANC rule. Moreover, the trend continues to be downward.

Hey, I had a shave a couple of Weeks ago ... was thinking of having another one yesterday, though I didn't get around to it, maybe later today, after a few more joints, you know, build up my immunity to conforming so that it doesn't become a habit.

I had followed most of the goings on here. I just have this horrible nagging feeling that maybe we have banned a victim of sexual abuse.....but hey ho, wtf do I know.

Lets say you're right jane.
Being a victim of abuse doesn't mean you can go around making veiled threats and using a forum to essentially try to make some innocent folk feel bad.

No it doesn't I agree.
But I have helped people who have been victims of sexual abuse that would make your stomach churn.....literally.
Like I said, I am only speculating, but there was too much 'between the lines' that triggered my radar.
I have also helped many people with addiction problems....and his vitriol just didn't sit in the same paradigms.
Unfortunately this is exactly what does happen when a victim is booze fuelled.
Anyway, what's done is done.
