More than 200,000 households in England are at risk of repossession or eviction, according to Shelter.

The majority of the worst-hit areas are in London, with Nottingham, Luton and Salford also affected, it said.

The housing charity said the figures, based on recorded court proceedings, suggest one in every 105 homes across the country is at risk.

1% sounds very low, with more than 2 million people unemployed and lots on minimum wage and part time working I would have thought the figure would be much higher.

Quite possibly, yes. But we can say for certain that it's at least 1% according to Shelter, which is around 700,000 people, which is nearly 1 1/2 times the population of Manchester.

I think his point was '1% of British Population at Risk of Being Homeless'.

But, I could be wrong. :coffee:

The point is that there are a quarter of a million people are about to become homeless and where exactly are they going to live? Our welfare state has no means of housing them when there's a shortage of social, let alone housing in general in this country.

selling off perfectly good council house's in Maggie's time didn't exactly help, if the councils had been able to use the money to build new ones probably wouldn't have this problem now but they weren't allowed to, letting in loads of economic migrants and letting them go to the head of the housing list didn't help either. don't know what the answer is, I don't think there is one. thankfully its not my problem.

That post started well but fell off with the economic migrants bit, lw.
Trust, the first bit of your post re thatcher is the issue there.
Still, all these folk could always buy a bus, fit it out nice and park up somewhere quiet where they aren't gonna hurt owt. They could live happily like that i'm sure.

Oh wait...hang on a mo...

Nothing will get done unless the situation gets very noticeable and towns start to fill up with homeless and it interferes with middle pyramid dwellers lives by making the place look scruffy.

Councils might have to bring in containers on industrial estates for people to live in (tidy the place up).

Dunno about you, but I'll be doing my best to treat them as fairly as I would any other human being. It should be obvious to anyone with eyes to see it that these people are not your enemy, not that you were suggesting that they are.

Those muppets you tick boxes for every so often know very well what will/is going to happen in the long-run, and I'll bet a new plastic fiver that they're rubbing their little trotters with glee at the very thought of it right now.
