www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/dec...-plants-energy-plans
Up to 50 nuclear power stations could be built under plans being looked at by the government. The remarkable figure – 10 times the number the government is openly discussing – is revealed in documents submitted to the Department of Energy and Climate Change by one of its own advisory bodies.

The documents are likely to raise questions as to what extent the government's energy policy is weighted in favour of nuclear and away from renewables such as wind turbines. It comes as Brussels begins an investigation into whether Britain is providing up to £17bn of potentially illegal public guarantees for the first nuclear power plant in a generation, Hinkley Point C in Somerset, which aims to provide 7% of the country's electricity.

Hinckley C will not be producing electricity until 2023 at the earliest-they have admitted as much, and probably the one in Cumbria is much the same date too. 50 nuclear power plants-yeah right! I cant see this government doing it...can you? we've got a general election in 18 months.

It's hard to say. I certainly think they will do so it if it is remotely feasible.

I'll just mention contract 'law'.
If the contracts get signed by this gov, future govs will struggle to renege on the deals. Because they are dumb and obey bits of paper.
"laws are unenforceable if the majority break them."-humanspirit,

It's all run by cronyism, anyway. They've all got the same contacts, once you get your foot in the door with the government and start getting major contracts, they get handed out like confetti. Look at Serco, for example. Nuclear power is backed by huge corporations like GE and Toshiba, and they always get what they want.

not in 18 months its not, it'll take TPTB that long to organise a committee meeting, these things take years to organise never mind build, its 10 YEARS before Hinckley Point C will be finished and actually producing power, we'd have had 2 if not 3 general elections by that time.
