I had clients receive legal threats for opening new businesses under similar names to those of competitors, and they had to comply with instructions to cease & desist or get sued.
Asda got sued years ago for introducing their own knock off brand of Penguins that they called Puffins.
It's ripping people off through trickery, and trading off the good reputation of established brands, which can also be detrimental to the reputations of the established ones.
