There was controversy early on with Barnardo's work. Mystery of young blonde girl found with Roma family in Greece ...
Greek police are trying to discover the identity of a young blonde girl who was found living on a Roma settlement with a family she did not resemble.
DNA tests revealed the child, called Maria and aged about four, was not related to the couple she lived with.
The little girl is now being looked after by a charity. Her photo has been released to help find her family.
Officials believe she may have been a victim of abduction or child trafficking.
Police are appealing internationally as the girl looks like she might be from northern or eastern Europe.
The charity, Smile of the Child, told the BBC that the girl was frightened and neglected when she arrived in their care but that in overall good health and was now more relaxed.
It said it had received many calls since the appeal was launched.
A spokesman for the British couple Kate and Gerry McCann, whose daughter Madeleine went missing in Portugal in 2007, said the case gave them "great hope" that she would one day be found alive...

Fears For 2 Children Missing With Father..Police say they are concerned for the welfare of a toddler and baby after they were snatched from a hotel in Staffordshire.. Saleem Tahir, 40, is understood to have smashed his way into a room where Na'llah Khan, aged two, and her brother Sulailman, 10 months, were being looked after at around 5pm on Friday and fled.
The pair were in the care of their mother in the hotel at the time.
Mr Tahir, who is originally from Nottingham, was seen with the children in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham at 8pm on Friday night.
Police say it is possible the children are with their 67-year-old grandmother, Denise Smith-Sellers.
Officers issued an urgent appeal asking for anyone who has seen Mr Tahir, Ms Smith-Sellers or the children to get in touch.
A spokesman for Staffordshire police said: "Have you seen these two children? Please call Staffordshire Police on 101.".
