Thanks for the link, merla - fascinating! Oddly enough, I was just today reading that passage from Matthew about the centurion who asked Jesus to cure his servant/probable lover. Jesus wasn't remotely interested in the chap's sexual orientation, just the depth and genuineness of his faith.

(As an aside, I did promise myself that I'd stay away from any threads with a religious theme on this board, as I was regularly getting my head kicked in (figuratively speaking, that is!) in the religion section in the "other place", but sometimes I just can't help pitching in, lol! I think everyone's too nice here to chuck rotten tomatoes at me anyway! :D )

Just took out the big quote cos it's getting a bit too big ;)

I think here we can talk more freely because people are trying to make a nice community where people that disagree with each other don't instantly draw the battle lines and tear holes in each other and can talk to each other with respect and even have a laugh on other topics.

I'm a confirmed atheist and I think you're all lovely people. :rose:

The hateful rantings of this 'Pastor' annoy and offend me, I imagine I'd be even more offended if I were a Christian and he dragged me down to his level by association.

And then beats the choirboy for being 'queer'.

Whats really scary about that is the odds are in your favour that you're probably right.

I know, I went from being sarcastic to thinking 'actually, he probably would...' as I was typing. He's an angry, angry man, probably linked to him being secretly gay and not getting that God won't be angry and if he is then God made him that way in the first place. God will care more about him making ugly hate speeches like this and encouraging physical and emotional child abuse.

EDIT from my point of view as a christian anyway. :)

The bible is conflicting on this issue and the faith itself as a result is full of conflict.
This is always why I have had such a derogatory view of religion. It's full of so much bullshit it's unbelievable.
There are those who take a very simplified view of it and stick to what makes sense, fortunately those numbers are growing but it's difficult for decent change to happen under such a ridiculous backwards dogmatic regime.

All the worlds religions cannot be right, this belief set though can be expanded to more than just religion, there's cultural aspects and other belief sets that people have that at times make even less sense than religion.

Nation states, democracy, borders, taxation, fractional reserve banking, trading things that don't exist for a profit...the list is endless the media is just mass madness televised or in print.

Way too much dogma and not enough spirituality and common sense imho.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It's that simple, what else is there after that? :)

I won't derail the thread by getting into the ins and outs of it but there is evidence that Jesus had no problem with gay people and he's who we should be paying attention to (instead of going on about Leviticus) if we claim to be Christians. I have a problem with organised religion too because you get things like this moron and it can be used as a system of control. One of the things christians like to say about god is he knew you before you were born, he knows every part of you down to each hair on your head and loves every one of them, so the same must be true for gay people.

Those last two sentences are how I feel too :)

This website is a little heavy handed but it has the information about Jesus not being anti-gay:

www.wouldjesusdiscriminate.com/

here's a link to the bible evidence:

That's the thing though feather... what I fail to get my head around is why a pig like this still even has a congregation. These people are as bad as him in my opinion.

People are now being arrested and charged more and more these days for 'politically uncorrect' remarks on the likes of facebook and twitter, whilst really sick individuals such as this wanker, are free to carry on sprouting out crap like this all in the name of god!

To be honest, I HATE organized religion! And specially fanatic christians and their bullshit views!! :aargh: I bet this guy would be in front row supporting genocide of gay or what ever people who are "sinners" and think/live differently as what he does...

Heck, if these crazies would decide, I would probably be in the line to gaschamber for sin and blasphemy.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I don't have anything against peoples faith, it's the religion which is fucking things up.

Organized religion gives a spot to shout for these types, like the guy in the video... If there would NOT be church to let these lunatics preach, many would be saved. :D

I agree. And what people decide to do in their own bedrooms is their own business. They aren't bothering anybody! I admire those for being 'out' and being who they are. If two people fall in love and they happen to be the same gender, then many blessings to them. :rose:

For a so-called 'Christian' pastor to say such nastiness like this in his sermon is not that surprising. Not very Christ-like in my eyes..

You got that right Mountain. (Nice to see you here too! )

I think all people should be equal in freedom of choise, no matter the subject. At least that's my right, and thus, everybody elses. For some, this kind of thing is just too much to understand.

Funny thing is, I know satanists who are show more understanding and sympathy toward other people than this "pastor."

Thats the things about the sort of morons highighted in the op - they use their faith as a weapon against that which they disagree with rather then embracing the aspects of their faith which could make a positive contribution to the world.

I know many people of all sorts of faiths who use take the teachings of their faith and make a positive contribution - who are able to have their faith and live their lives in accordance and leave others to live theirs.

Then there are the extremists who do no favours to anyone.

I just typed in 'gay stampede' in the hopes I might be able to post a humorous image in response to your post (not that my computer lets me post images any more for some reason).

You DO NOT want to know what results that phrase churned up. I'm filthy, but it even made me feel a bit sick.
