I'm not trying to pour cold water on your ideas about it, Elf, and genuinely wish you well.

But I can't help thinking that approaching something because of what sounds like a self-loathing, or at least repugnance for what is natural in our form, seems kind of unhealthy to me. I don't mean that to sound offensive though. To my mind, people who strive to expand spiritually are on the wrong track if it causes them to shun our normal physical aspects. We're both spiritual & physical.

The fact that there are people out there who do this at all I find fascinating, and it kind of validates some of my thinking on the subject.

Were I to offer any kind of advice for anyone thinking of trying it (if you value the opinion of someone who has never done it) it would be don't be too hard on yourself if you slip.

It will be an interesting journey regardless, as long as you are mindful of your health and fairly in tune with your own body, which many of us are not. I'd probably look to aim for a defined period in the first instance and see how you respond physically to that. That'd be my first goal, anyway, after gathering all the information I possibly could on the subject.

This is what we are spoonfed by the New Age. I can't say about anyone else because my belief is that energy and consciousness, or what we define as souls and spirits can have different origins, but what I know about myself is that I wasn't originally tied to the physical and being here for me is not natural. Though I'm yet to find out how and why I got here it never was for "learning" and "experiencing" how new age b*llsh*tters would have you believe. I'm not offended at this being seen as unhealthy, it is a natural reaction until one becomes aware that the 3d density body is not original creation of the source and if the realization haven't come it may be not needed and can't be pushed on you. Trying will not harm me in any way as I'll stop the experiment in case I feel it doesn't go right. It may be restarted as many times as you need, each time becoming easier to go through.

This cult is so last year.

There's a new cult who consider air use to be decadent and nonspiritual.

The new cult is the nonbreatharians, their leader gasping bob crawthrob has described the breatharians as "pussy's"

Hokay - non breatharians sound like the people who should be looking at my One way trip to Mars thread: sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/Solar-System--Sp...ou-do-it-better.html Humorous aside :D

But I wouldnt't be so harsh humanspirit. Ideas, true or deceptive, have a sneaky way of helping us to form a balanced world view.

Some of the soundest advice I have heard came from someone who spent time in a cult - the negative personal experience created a positive lesson that could be shared with the rest of us.

Breatharianism, despite the 'ism' bit, is far from a cult. It's actually a very individual pursuit.

I would say it fits the definition of cult,as do many other groups or linked ideologies which humans take part in.

Surely if you lower your calorie intake beyond a certain level the body will release certain chemicals to prepare you for hunting and scavenging.

The senses will become more alert as your body knows if you don't get the calories needed you will die.

If you manipulate these senses and feeling it will feel like you have become more spiritually aware.

The reality will be that your senses (which include smell, sight, touch, taste and hearing) have become more alert ready for action to obtain the calories.

Obviously when overfed these senses will become dumbed down as they are less essential and the body will concentrate on breaking the food down into it's nutritional values for the body.

It could also be quite offensive to starving people in the third world and elsewhere.

People can do what they want with their own body and i do agree the majority of people eat to much and of the wrong type of food but to promote the idea of living of air is ridiculous.

Would the guru of breatharianism promote the idea to these people.

I don't think its really anything that can be 'promoted', any more than thinking or having faith in something like YOU MUST EAT OR DIE can be. For those brave enough to explore and push boundaries, it is a very individual thing. Most of the vids and info I have come across are made by people who have successfully done this and merely wish to hand on a few helpful hints to others who might consider it. It really requires no books, tapes or special powders to do it. It is simply about listening to your self.

Certainly, it isn't some new fad as it is a practice that has been around for thousands of years. Perhaps you might look a bit deeper into the subject before reeling out the same old tired arguments and pictures of starving children?

Or not.
