It seems clear that the questioning of the authenticity of Christianity and the questioning of the authenticity of religion are synonymous in the mind of many journalists, historians and sociologists whereas the questioning of the authenticity of other religions (in this case Buddhism), certainly is not.

Jesus was a Buddhist? That will please the Hadaka Jimme/rodin crowd and simultenously please the Dawkins brigade and. of course, the "New Age Coffee Table Buddhisty kinda Spiritual" person.

The entire documentary failed to addess this: "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!".

It has been said that makes Jesus either mad, a liar or the Son of God.

But when the documentary begins a voice over with "What reaally happened in the tomb.." with "really" meaning "in truth as opposed to the fiction of the crede" then obvioulsy, er....the resurection lies outside the realms of possibility within the context of the documentary.

So I can see why they oimitted the version of the Gospel of the one guy who was er....there under the Cross.
thank you St Jude for favours granted

G'day Mikey Mikey.

I am unaware of any confirmation that it is known who actually wrote the god-spells ... ooops, I mean gospels. Even the catholic encyclopedia has an entry stating that the names were added to the texts and the authors are unknown. Religious scholars are in agreement that the authorship of the gospels is unknown.

As to 'Jesus' being a Buddhist ... which 'Jesus' ?

Yeshua ben Panthera ?

Josephus, the first century historian, mentions 19 different 'Jesus' characters ... for example, Jesus ben Phiabi, Jesus ben Sec, Jesus ben Damneus and Jesus ben Gamaliel. Yet there is no recording of any 'Jesus of Nazareth' ... maybe because Nazareth didn't exist prior to the second century.

Religion always leads to rhetorical despotism. This leads to self-fulfilling prophecy and justifications for all manner of obscenities. It shields evil behind walls of self-righteousness which are proof against all arguments against the evil. It feeds on deliberately twisted meanings to discredit opposition. It leads directly to hypocrisy which is always betrayed by the gap between actions and explanations. They never agree. Ultimately, it rules by guilt because hypocrisy brings on the witch hunt and the demand for scapegoats.
