Words and language are extremely important , it is how we communicate with one and other.

So let's post a word of the day, complete with explanation to help us all expand our vocabulary :bunny2:

My word of the day is PROSODY

Excellent idea for a thread, mel! I get along far better with words than I do with numbers!

My word for the day is TIMEOUS - which means "in good time, on time".

Are you trying to tell us something? :chuckle:

Anyway, ive been doing a memory training course, and just did the vocab session.
To help remember words and their meaning, you just need to create imagery.
ie SLAKE means 'to quench' so, think of an S-shaped lake and you go and take a drink from it after a long hike to quench your thirst. MICPOLE means argument, so i imagined a Microphine (mic) on a pole and someone arguing using the microphone. All these things help you to retain the info.

I found this vid too:

Its pretty pointless knowing big words really as no one else knows what youre on about. People will just think youre doltish and hebetudinous anyway.

Simple but effective, non? I always write those two words into my stories.

Contrition.

I like it, and people don't seem to show me enough of it.

You're not thick at all, irre.

Get yourself a good dictionary and thesaurus (before they stop printing such things) and every time you come across a word you've not heard before, look it up and try to memorise it.
