Johnny goes to a clothes shop and finds a jacket that he wants, it costs £97.

He hasn't got any money, so he borrows £50 from his mum and £50 from his dad.

He goes and buys the jacket for £97 and gets £3 change.

He gives £1 back to his mum and £1 back to his dad and keeps £1 for himself.

So he now owes his mum £49 and his dad £49.

£49 + £49 = £98 and he has kept £1 for himself, making it £99.

Where has the extra £1 come from?

There's not an extra pound, there's a pound missing, Johnny pocketed it. He still owes them £98 having given out £2 but has a quid in his pocket.

Which makes £99 but he had £100!

He owes 98 gave 2=100. He could give em 10 bob each and owe 97.

Coat was 97 +1+1+1(mam, dad n J)
