How much freedom do we really have?

Had a nasty letter from insurance broker this morning 18th july. They inform me that due to me buying a house and changing my address i need to send them my licence photo card and paper counter part .If I do not send them within 7 days my insurance will be cancelled and i will not be legally allowed to drive. Their letter was dated 13th july and sent in second class post. So from 20th i will have no insurance if my post does not make it on time.

Now also been informed i will lose my job if i dont get my insurance sorted by friday by boss. Need car to work.

Just when i thought i was free ive realised im just a slave still. crazy fucking world.

I don't see the point in that.
Didn't they ask for it when they gave you the insurance cover to begin with? :)

Hehe!

Hands up how many people managed to get car insurance without ever showing their driving license?

I did!!

But, I think it's different if you need any kind of special insurance in relation to your work. Don't sweat it nirvana...it'll all come out in the wash. Worse case scenario, just play dumb. It works for me. Or mebbe show a bit of leg? :umm:

They should accept a jpeg or pdf scan of the license or photocopy etc.
They have no right to demand that you actually send them your driving license.

Its a bit like hotels abroad that insist on holding on to your passport I tell them to fuck off and read the front page lol

I got an email from a driving job I applied for yesterday, requesting I sent very clear copies of my driving licence.
The way it was all worded, I just thought... hmmmm. .... Nigerian scam. Though after a small bit of Googling, maybe Russian!

But you're right, they've no right to request your actual driving licence.

Can you get into trouble for not informing of a change of address for licence and insurance?

Yes.

You MUST by law inform DVLA if you change address (if you hold a valid driving licence).

Insurance, well if you don't inform them of a change of address then your insurance is invalid. You are not legally insured to drive and they won't pay out if you have an accident..

Unless your change of address is abroad in which case you do NOT have to notify DVLA ;)
You'll notice that little snippet of info on the paper license, this is ofc to benefit guys who are not resident in the UK for tax purposes :p

Oh..and me ofc ;) Bwahahaa!

Something very strange has happend complete turn around from last week. My insurance broker has told me my insurance now is cancelled but i will be paid so much back and would I like them to try and get me cover somewhere else :umm: I swore at the broker could not help it.

I told him you sent me a letter in 2nd class telling me ive got 7 days to send my license in why was it not first class. His reply was that was not his department and he would like to apolagise for the error :umm: But also said due to the error i would have to take out a new policy. :umm: Being absolutly skint untill end of month i couldnt renew my policy even thoe i paid in full 1 month ago for a years cover.
Anyway boss has had to give my job to someone else but said once my policy is sorted he will be able to sort me some hours out.

So being pissed off and wanting to knock out an insurance broker decided to go for a pint and a mate ive not seen for years offered me a job with his firm at the Olympics so off to London now in a few days time. Funny how one door shuts and another door opens. Did not have a clue last week that I would be going to the Olympics maybe its meant to be. Maybe im one of the chosen ones :axe:

Does your new job involve delivering any backpacks?

Checking back packs not delivering them. I go down tuesday. Im going to be rotating from inside and crowd control outside so be good to see if anything happens while im there.

To be honest i dont think anything is going to happen i think its all scare tactics by certain people who are milking it for their own empires. Conspiracy is worth millions massive industry.

They are still short for SIA guys so if you are badged up good money because we negotiated from £6.50 an hour to £12.50 an hour should be doing lots of 12 hour shifts which will all get spent on my house renovation.

Thats not only completely out of order, it sounds illegal to me as well. You paid in full, its a binding 12 month contract.

Have you looked at the small print on your policy?

Good luck Nirvana, I hope everything works out well for you.

And no, I've never had to show my licence or any form of ID to obtain car insurance.

At one time (I'm thinking of maybe 20 years ago) you were just liable to a £5 fine if you neglected to inform DVLA of a change of address within a certain length of time.

I don't know why you're old moaning about more stringent ID checks and precautions? It's for your own good and will protect you and your great nation from the terrorists.
