It sucks though when you're skint and a pound makes all the difference.

Been there Dawn, many, many times. The ticket office is un-manned now, though I did have a pocket full of coppers, which I may have been able to make up the difference with, HAD the machine accepted denominations smaller than 5 pence pieces.

So...yeah, I did try and play the game. I don't feel guilty.

One of my all time favorite movies is Emperor Of The North it's about your subject and very good,personally I don't think you should jump a train,but a choice is up to the individual fast moving trains need to be avoided.

Why, you child, you! Actually, back in the good old days there were even fewer inspectors - or, if there were any, they didn't bother themselves to go actually checking tickets. All through my teens and even my twenties, I used to travel regularly to London, Birmingham or even Manchester (to see United play) on a platform ticket. :D Loads of us did, and we were never caught once.

Some memories there girl, I remember well how easy it was to get around , "back in the good old days", for free!!

We used to regularly "bunk" the train, from Kettering, to go and see United or Spurs, it was just so easy then.

Hitch-hiking was a normal thing in those days, my thumb took me to so many places (steady Abs), all over the UK and Europe. People were so much more trusting of each other in them thar days. Years later, once I had a car of my own, I would stop for any hitchers, gladly.

It ain't like that now , is it?

Hahaha, yes, jhado! The people back then didn't seem to be so "conditioned" as today - so train inspectors didn't have this overwhelming urge to check every damn ticket on their master's behalf; and no one particularly wanted to criminalise people for the sake of a few pounds ticket fare. They seem ready to insist someone gets fined/criminal record for pence nowadays.

We used to hitch everywhere (instead of going to church on Sunday) but always in pairs minimum, being girls - and we got loads of creepos. Didn't stop us though. :D

Just say you lost your ticket if they threaten to arrest you start crying . It will work the guilty guard will feel very embarrised.
