Anyone here know how monthly pay works? The last time, which was some considerable time ago, that I was on a monthly wage you didn't have to wait any longer than an actual month before being paid.

My son has recently started a job with a montly salary and they've informed him he has to wait two bloody months before getting paid! Is this right before I go and stick my nose into the whole thing?

This is quite normal now, apparently sketts. They have to hold back a month for some legal reason I know nothing about, or so they tell you. Gonna be screwed myself when it happens.

Monthly I know people who get paid monthly, should be bloody illegal fortnightly is bad enough...meh

The two month thing does happen but not every company does it. Iirc if you're on benefits before you take up the job the DSS have help available.

Cheers for all the replies people, looks like he'll just have to ride it out. He's only just turned 18 and not on any benefits and I wouldn't even entertain one of those temporary loan shark thingys

I just thought in this day and age there wouldn't be such a thing anymore. The WHOLE summer with no pay is out of order but jobs are few and far between as we all know.

I think way back when I was monthly paid I waited six weeks. It depended on when time was turned in or something, it is a better way to get paid I think but tough that first month or two, luckily I was living at home at the time.

Is he doing 30+ hours per week psketti? If so, he could claim tax credits.

If an employer tells you that they cannot do that, they are lying end of.

I know someone who started a new job recently and he was paid monthly but did NOT have to work a month in hand.

Years ago when I started at working at some place I had to wait 2 and a half months to get paid, it was a bloody nightmare. Apparently though, I was told that I could have asked for a "sub" from my employer, but i never did.
Could your son ask for a sub from his employer Psketti ?
