What is your reading voice peeps? I mean, when you read, do you read in your own voice? Or do you have a "reading voice"? If it's a female author, is the voice female? If it's an American author, is the voice American?

I kinda do that when i read, like if its a female the voice is a bit female and vice versa ...wierd hey

I also do the same with internet posts

That includes getting a sense of the authors voice...if i dont know i kinda make it up i guess.

Interesting question, irrie - I don't really have a "reading voice" when I read. However, I listen to a lot of audio books and then of course I listen to a literal "reading voice". It can be funny sometimes listening to the reader attempt to do the voice of a character of the opposite sex to themselves! I'm currently listening to an audio book with the (English) reader attempting to do a terrible American accent - I'm thinking, "Just don't bother"!

I have a vivid imagination , so i 'do' the voices of the characters , without even realising it. Trouble is... my accents suddenly go italian or pakistani by accident.. i am crappy with all the millions of accents. It is so funny , it even makes me laff!

Interesting. I can do loads of voices and accents of characters and that. My reading "narrator" is usually a posh bloke
The one thing I'm not great at is faces. They're sometimes actors, they're usually sort of blurred though, like a rough idea of a face but not very well realised/visualised.

I love to narrate a book to someone, my daughter, my wife. I can do accents, voices, variations in the speed of delivery, and jump in and out of the characters. etc.

Set the mood in the reading room, be it candles or music, or both, be extremely comfortable, and be familiar with the tale you are about to deliver.

I was the only one in English lit. class who would read my character 'in character', everyone else went with the monotone "I can't really read" approach, I preferred the idea of hiding behind a voice that wasn't mine. When I read a book I tend to do as andyh does, if the book is good enough I'll have an image of the character in my head, complete with voice. This why I almost totally refuse to read a book after I've already seen the film that was based on said book, Trainspotting being the exception to this particular rule.
