This came into my mind last night. I'm not sure this is a genuine example of premonition, or perhaps just common sense, but it was quite freaky at the time.

I was in the Isle of Wight with my family in 1989, and we were at a seaside town called Sandown. We were going around all the arcades, and then we went on the pier. I thought it was great because there were tonnes more machines on there, but it was really packed full of people. Anyway, we'd only been on there for a couple of minutes, and my mum said she wanted to get off it. And I said "why?", and she said "I don't like it on here, there's loads of exposed wires all over the place, and it's too packed, it's not safe at all, there could be a fire easily, and how would we get out, I don't like it, I want to get off". And I thought she was being absolutely ridiculous, but my dad, perhaps wishing to diffuse the situation and knowing my mum quite well said that we should do so. I was well pissed off as I thought it was completely unnecessary, and all I wanted to do was play on the machines there.

Anyway, we were sat in the cottage we were staying in the next day near teatime watching telly, and the local news came on. And what was the first article on the news? Massive fire at Sandown pier. It virtually completely burnt down, it caused over £2,000,000 of damage (I'm not sure what this would convert to in modern money, but quite a lot more obviously), and they had to shut the pier down for ten months. My mum was nowhere near as smug about it as I would have been!

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like that?

When I read that the Libdems entered into a coalition with the Tories I had a premonition that they would be used as dopey human shields by conservatives pushing through policies to increase their mates wealth.

It's a curse!

About 22 years ago, I felt agitated, and just had an instinct that something wasn't right at home. I lived with my now husband in a rented house, on relocating at short notice to Middlesbrough for his work, and we were looking for a place to buy.

I asked permission to leave work a bit early because the strong sense that something bad was happening regarding the house distracting. I got home to find we'd been robbed of everything we owned - and like donkeys, we hadn't got around to arranging any insurance.

Then about 2 years ago, I was just collecting my friend from her home to go out. On the way into the area where she lived, I'd noticed a young mum with a few kids. A couple of minutes later, on the way out, the family were no longer visible because of parked traffic, and although I was only moving slowly, I said to my mate, "That little one's going to run across", and stopped the car. A split second later, a little blonde girl hurtled across the road in front of me, and I'd definately have hit her if I'd still been moving. My mate was shocked, and asked how I could have seen her when she didn't. The fact was that I hadn't seen her, but just knew with absolute certainty that she was going to do it. I can't explain it, and it only happens very infrequently, but in that instance, all I could feel was gratitude that I hadn't squished the child.

Interesting subject! I think everyone innately has this ability. Some are naturally adapted to it, while others need to redevelop it. I think it comes from a time when our ancestors were more connected with the land. Today, we've more or less domesticated ourselves. As a result, what was once commonplace now seems supernatural and esoteric.
Form is merely a momentary manifestation of being, not a fixed reality.

History doesn't repeat itself, uninformed people repeat history.

To all progressive endeavors great or small, come unforeseen benefits on a scale larger than most give pause or contemplation of.

I agree with you, an also think the detachment was encouraged by the authorities (churches etc) who taught us do disregard such things as nonsense, or in the more extreme cases, morally wrong abominations, out of their desire for control.

Who knows what we're really capable of if these abilities are nurtured?

I've had several positive premonitions in my life. They have occurred during times when I’ve reached a cross-roads and a major descision is called for. The funny thing is that I've later reflected on the premonition and the decision that I had made, and I've felt the urge to try and send a message back to my past self telling me to make that decision (at the point when I had my premonition). The reason for this is that whenever I've had these premonitions, the message has definitely come from me.

That might seem strange, but each to their own :chuckle:

So some people would refer to that as being messages from your 'higher self'.

I've had very clear premonitions in dreams. Some were the dumbest goddamn things... :chuckle:

One night, when I was living in Vancouver, I fell asleep on my couch. I had a dream that a snake had crawled up on my balcony, and had cornered my cats. I grabbed a broom, mand went at the snake through the patio doors, and it was hissing, biting at the broom....

The next night, I fell asleep on my couch, and was awakened by my cats making that sound that cats make before a fight. I ran to the patio doors, and instead of a snake, it was a fairly large raccoon! It had my cats backed up, I was poking at it with the broom, it was pissed at me.... :emb: It jumped off the deck, my cats and their food were safe.

Like I said, dumb. But I have had dreams about the sex of babies that women I knew were having, I had a dream that my brother in law passed away and he did... but never really had a premonition in the "awake" world. A sense of something, like an instinctive or intuitive warning, but not really a full on premonition.

I've also had some premonitions in dreams. Sometimes, it'll just be bits and pieces in the dream that match up to silly, mundane things in life. When I was a teenager, I had a weird dream that I told friends about and that evening some of the elements of the dream popped up in an episode of Twin Peaks(1st airing & the parts of the dream weren't in any previews). :chuckle: My friend called me during a commercial break because she couldn't believe it.

Not sure if this counts, but a couple of years back, I was playing around with my tarot cards(I'm a total amateur :emb: ) and decided to throw down one card for my "week ahead". It was the Ace of Cups. About midweek, I went to lunch with a friend and a guy she knew and we decided to take him to the Monastery to check out the Bonsai shop. As we were leaving, the guy says, "Check out that water tower!" When I looked up, I see a water tower resembling the Ace of Cups card! I guess the cards were hinting at our spontaneous trip to the Monastery.

The similarities there are very marked K-Bone - the symbol on the tower is like a stylised, downwards-pointing bird, like on the card, and the cross on the card is twinned with the cross on the tower! This is interesting stuff.

You've got the Ryder Waite cards, like mine (I'm also an amateur). Some recommend that you shouldn't bother to learn how to read the Tarot at all, but instead take what the symbols represent to you at face value.

All kinds...
First conscious memory of one though was when I lived in Texas (had never been to Arizona). Had a dream that involved two other people, walking down a dirt road and a set of hills to my left. About 3-4 years later moved to Arizona, right in front of said set of hills I had dreamed about...started school, met those two people who had been in my dream...and it's all dirt roads around here. (I lived in a city in Texas, didn't know what a dirt road was at that age).
Has happened since too, but nothing as big as that ^...get deja-vu all the freaking time too.

I also thought it was funny since it was a water tower and you have the cup overflowing with water! :D

Yeah, I do better if I just go with the symbols. If I get stuck with a card and start reading online about all the different meanings and interpretations, I get totally flustered! I often find they are very literal for me. Even once I drew a card about a guy who was irritating me; it was the eight of pentacles(guy hammering away at pentacles/coins). He had just called me and told me about a sculpture he was working on...covering a shark with pennies!

That's a great one! Is it just me or is deja-vu always super mundane? I'm talking eating cereal, watching cartoons, noticing dog hair on my socks- oh my god! I'm having deju-vu....about nothing! :conf:

Deja-vu is supposed to mean you're on the right path (following what you had planned out before) although in the back of my mind it makes me wonder if it's not some subconscious premonition type of thing.
But for me it varies...sometimes it's really mundane (like I'll get it while I am cooking, my mom is sitting at the counter reading something (the exact book), my son watching the exact thing on TV, the way things are sitting or sounding, etc...) other times it can seem huge (like the other day when I turned around and my son was screaming coming towards me with blood spraying everywhere from his finger cuz he cut himself with a steak knife (probably deja-vu moment because I am forever missing the vegetable/fruit and cutting myself)).

I've never had one of a serious nature; that must have been scary!

I also like think deja-vu has something to do with alternate realities/parallel universes...can't say that's the case; I just fancy the idea of a multiverse! ;)
