Get yourselve's over there and join the melee. This is the first chance the BBC have given people to have their say.
A lot of sound stuff is being said, in amongst some absolute classic fails like,
"Iran blame USA like how Nazis blamed Israel for everything"

Go on, you know you want to :)

I'm getting a few negative arrows btw :killinme:

You have to click the 'all comments' tab too, otherwise it just displays 'editors picks'...tricksy bastards.

Tricksy bastards they certainly are. The way the BBC selects which topics the people are entitled to exercise free speech on is a disgrace. The way the editors picks are selected tends to be disgraceful too. I was very surprised to see this HYS appear today after months of them not letting people speak on the subject. Perhaps someone is trying to gauge the efficacy of the propaganda? I dunno tbh but the propagandists certainly aint getting their own way on this one today.

Not sure if it will disappear or not, but if you check out #336 that was the best I could do in under 400 characters.dubmeup wrote:

Evidently it hasn't disappeared yet! If it does disappear the BBC are effectively censoring themselves.

The west should put all its weight behind removing the pro-Iran Assad regime because its persistence is dangerous to world peace. My belief is that the Iran regime supports Assad because it sees Syria and Lebanon(and Gaza Strip) as western missile sites to threaten Europe and North Africa with medium and long range missiles, possible with nuclear warheads.
Wake up to the threat.
What's the expression about being able to fool some of the people all of the time?

Wait until my book comes out on the BBC. I'm going to break my back promoting it. The licence fee will die in my lifetime, and you BBC employees won't be able to sit there posting your stupid pissing blogs on ridiculous salaries with massive expense accounts, having been paid to move to Salford in the first place. You'll actually have to get a proper job, and old people that can't afford to put the heating on won't have to pay Graham Norton's fucking £2 million salary any more.dubmeup wrote:

Your usename just reminded me...what's it like to support a club with two players? Actually, it's two more professional standard players than the club I support has.

Quite sad what is happening in Syria. Both sides screaming Allahu ak bar and killing each other: Syrians against Syrian....

But history would not be any kind to Assad, he is the president of the country and hence should had stepped down when the support was no longer given.

The era of ruling people by force is long gone!!

It's very easy for us all to sit here and comment on the dreadful situation in Syria.

Does any one who isn't actually there fully understand the true extent of what's happening or who's to blame ?

al - Assad cannot destroy his own people and get away with it, yet the rebels are murdering loyalist to Asaad, what's the difference ?

Shouldn't we keep an open mind ?

Assad's Syria was not some kind of "secular paradise". It was a brutal security state run by one clan and their cronies. Assad's father flattened an entire town, killing 20,000 people to keep power.
It is true that jihadists have infiltrated the rebels, but that doesn't make all of the rebels "terrorists". Those here equating the rebels to the likes of bin Laden should be ashamed of themselves.

Over all political and religious considerations over Syria comes Assad's fear of losing power, just ask Putin about what lengths a man will go to to stay in control. These 'dicators' are fearful, selfish men who are more than willing to bring a whole country crashing down around them just so they can stay in power. History repeats and they never learn.

I have defected from the terrorist, murderous regime and [am] joining the holy revolution," ran Mr Hijab's statement read by his spokesman, Asaad should learn from Ben Ali of Tunisia, syrians need freedom he should step down because syria is not his family property.
If you click on "show more", these are the next four comments that come up:

What is happening in Syria is entirely down to the armed terrorists, who the west consistently refers to as rebels / insurgents. This tragedy is destroying a secular society where the Syrian people could dress how they want, had freedom of worship, where women were free and had equal status in law. This will all be replaced by a religious dictatorship, where freedom is gone

Comment number 7. Mahesh

Assad is no saint and some the actions of his troops are no doubt violating human rights but the Western media has failed to condemn the rebels hiding in heavily populated areas using them as meat shields and the use of child soldiers is being hailed as "teenagers fighting for a cause". Turkey, Qatar and US aiding the rebels is a good thing but not Russia aiding the govt. Double standards galore.

+55
Comment number 2. Stonehall
Any person who takes up arms to fight against the US is called an insurgent or a terrorist. If the same person takes up arms to fight against a gov't the US sees as unfriendly, the person is called an activist or a freedom fighter. The US can not be supplying arms to insurgents and condemning killings at the same time. Western double standards as always!!!

Al-CIAda are significant within the rebels, supplied by Saudis,Qatar, supported by USA,UK,Turkey. Whatever your thoughts on Assad, this makes a mockery of of the West and the "anti-terrorism" movement used to bludgeon us into submitting to a police state.

Balanced coverage of the conflict has been missing from the BBC and other western media, further driving people to other news sources.
No-one could possibly claim that this is anything other than systematic bias.

It's something I see time and time again on my forays into HYS wub. You can point it out to people there and they will still say the BBC isn't biased  The BBC know of course that rather than trawl through hundreds of comments most will just scan the editors picks to get what they feel is a sense of the discussion. They use that to good effect.

What we're seeing there today is very unusual. All of those comments are now showing as editors picks as you say. Earlier, only the 5 first ones were there. Now the show more at least chucks up the other (heavily + arrowed) 4. It's almost as if someone has jumped into the editor's seat in the last hour or so :conf: But still, yes you have to click show more to get anything more than those first 5.

The BBC disgust me. I don't think there is a more damaging organisation or institution because people get their view of the world from them, they have massive influence and power over every aspect of life in the UK, and yet they willfully mislead people about everything. And they make the public fund them. And people thank them for it.

Thanks for pointing the article out, I've had my say, anyway. And received the usual opprobrium I get when I give my opinion on such subjects, even though my opinion is only based on the completely historically documented facts. I'd better get back to work now!

Total agreement from me WUB. That's why i do spend time on the HYS at the BBC. There's actually quite an encouraging amount of us that do nowadays.

I will also add that the 4 comments that only show up if you click the show more button are all +arrowed up to fuck. Namely they have a lot of support from contributors.
Whereas the 5 comments that the Editor is presenting to the majority of viewers have barely any support at all.............

I'm trying to find exactly where Hague and Britain stand legally on this action.

www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/fin_sanctions_terrorist.htm

"Following the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1373 (2001). It denounced terrorism and required member states to deny all forms of financial support for those who participate in terrorist acts; to deny the provision of safe haven, support for terrorists; and to share with other governments information about any groups practising or planning terrorist acts. "

Makes it seem clear that this action contravenes that resolution. No doubt somewhere along the line the FSA have been granted belligerent status to try and cover the backs of those supporting them but again the old adage "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" is hugely relevant.

I've posted over at UKPlod Online, asking them to clarify the legal position.

"“Whenever a large organized group believes it has the right to resist the sovereign power and considers itself capable of resorting to arms, war between the two parties should take place in the same manner as between nations…” This statement by de Vattel in the 19th century seemed destined to take its place as a part of positive law, constituting part of what was known as recognition of belligerency, tantamount to the recognition by the established government of an equal status for insurgents and regular belligerents. When a civil war became extensive enough, the State attacked would understand that it was wisest to acknowledge the existence of a state of war with part of the population. This would, at the same time, allow the conflict to be seen in a truer light. The unilateral action of the legal government in recognizing belligerency would be the condition for granting belligerent rights to the parties. It would constitute a demonstration of humanity on the part of the government of the State attacked and would also provide that government with prospects for effective pursuit of the war. By admitting that it was forced to resort to war, it would at least have its hands free to make war seriously."
journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbs...e=online&aid=5979740

If this is the case it seems clear that it's up to a sovereign state to grant belligerent status.
Assad hasn't done so. He refers to the FSA et al as "terrorists"...........

So far the UKPlodOnline lot are not answering my question........

I think I'll just have to ring the local station and report what could well be a massive crime.

OK, I rang Avon and Somerset plodstabulary and asked to report what I think may be a crime. The nice lady put me through to the metropolitan plod. The man there wouldn't answer my question as to whether this is lawful and whether a crime has been committed. He told me that the Met doesn't deal with international affairs.
So I pointed out that if this indeed criminal under UK Law, Hague has committed a crime on UK soil.....
At which point he got flustered and said,"I'm not dealing with this complaint you'll have to go to the foreign office"....... He wouldn't register my report of a potential crime. I did actually burst out laughing at one point. The conversation led to me asking the question "are members of Parliament permitted to commit crimes?", to whit he replied, "they do yes"..........
So I was redirected to the Foreign Office.....Who insisted that I have to take this up with Hague's office.
Strangely, the lady didn't like it when I said that's akin to me going around to someone who I think burgled my house and asking them if they burgled my house.....
So the result of this call was that I was given this address to seek clarification on the lawful position.

What a waste of bloody time, yet more evidence that there is no recourse and no accountability..
