Were we to be invaded by an alien life form, I dunno, sometime around the closing of the Olympics, and were your government to introduce compulsory service to help fight a war against said invaders, would you happily join up?

Well if they were doing an 'Independance Day'...being obviously hostile...then I'd be with the govt/armed forces on the issue.

If there was no evidence of any hostility however, just the authorities word that their intent was hostile, then I'd be very sceptical and certainly wouldn't be shooting any aliens that turned up in my street on that basis.

Would you need to physically see one of these creatures, or would msm/news coverage be enough for you? Do you think it would even occur to many people amidst the hysteria (particularly if a nasty 'event' had occurred in which many people had lost their lives) that something might be amiss?

How could we argue otherwise anyway? Unlike the fabled 'terrorist', we'd have no knowledge of who they are or what they want, other than what our ever-loving government tell us. Sounds like an ideal 'solution' to many of the issues our governments currently face, to me.

Think of this scenario like an extension of the current terrorist issue, if you like.

I don't think it will happen...it seems just too far fetched. It's been done to death in cinema for years. I don't think people would buy it, it's too movie-like, too ludicrous.

That's my opinion anyway

If 'aliens' ever invade, I'll know it's complete bullshit. There's no reason for any extraterrestrial species to invade this planet. The only real threat would logically come from neighboring planets, other developing species not much more developed than we are. They would still have the need to utilize living planets to continue to advance technologically. Since there are no known advanced civilizations in this solar-system, invasion is extremely unlikely. Advanced EBEs would have solved their energy and resource problems long before going galactic, intergalactic, or even traversing dimensions. Bluebeam won't happen, there are contingencies in place.
