Over the years, I've been lucky enough to win various prizes from magazine comp's, & am always surprised when people say, "I didn't think anyone really won those things". You don't even need to buy the magazines any more - tough that has resulted in more entries for each prize.

I've had a Polti steam cleaner & steam generator iron, a dish-washer, a Rangemaster Toledo range cooker, a set of solid brass stair rods, and having found the above site in March this year, I won a Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner in April.

Sometimes you see comp's on there for big cash lumps sums, or bundles of gadgets that might total £30k + value.

I'll have a look at that. I've traditionally not bothered my arse with competitions because I think I probably woudn't win, and I never want to get my hopes up and then have them dashed!

I might enter a few, you never know, I could win! My step dad won a shit hot VCR once worth about £400

What you get is a load of advertising from the firms. It takes me about 2 minutes each day to delete it. But sometimes it's an interesting news letter that's worth having a look at. It's easy enough to stop them sending it if you want to, so to my mind, it's worth it.

Abs open a new email account dedicated to comping, if you want to give it a go, and when you enter comps change your date of birth slightly (ie one month ahead or a different day in the month to keep your personal info slighty private)

I have had loads of small wins since I started in March.

I seem to win things I need or I have thought about, for instance, a few months back I was talking about four lions the film saying how I'd never seen it and three days later the postman knocked with a parcel of dvds and four lions was amongst the collection (I don't even rember entering that one)

I was moaning about how I'd had to buy a cheapo liquid gel eyeliner then within the week one arrived from YSL

Someone in my family's mobile phone stopped working then I won 2 mobile phones!!

A huge giant sized bag of cat food arrived shortly after I got the cat

It's a fun hobby , but it is a hobby if you take it too seriously you'll only end up dissappointed, or as Bobster mentioned it will seem like a chore

It's great, Dawn, to get all those extra treats that you wouldn't normally want to splash out for.

I too only enter comps for things I actually want, or another family member wants. It's a bit of fun, and not such a chore if you've got auto-fill switched on on your PC.

I'm a comper too, so thanks for the link Gilly! I enter competitions on Twitter (I was introduced to that by dawnbreak!), in magazines and through the goodtoknow website. I've never won anything major but I did win a bundle of books recently in a Tesco comp - alas, though, they weren't my type of read! Still, it's nice to win something, though!
