No, people would still partake. There'd just be a fresh influx of labour to the Prison workforce I reckon.

Yup, murder is illegal, and there's still plenty of that as well. Like you've said Dub, it would just make a few people very rich. Those running the corporate prison systems, and those illegally running them into countries would rake in money. What-ever standards are in place now would also be thrown out the window. The quality of the products would likely be even more health concerning than they currently are. What it comes down to is personal responsibility, rather than having big brother step in and take care of everyone like children.

Where I go, the bouncers smoke, damn near right in the doorway...people don't say much about smokers, they be in redneck country and know should they open their flip-flop, Hawaiian shirted mouth, they may be used as a punching bag...although I tend to be polite enough to step a good distance away from the door and try to stay on the far end of the sidewalk. But I have encountered those that you speak of...I like Ab's idea, blow smoke on them at bus stops.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

What would happen if alcohol and tobacco were illegal in the West? Folks would sell and buy illegal alcohol and tobacco. I'm sure there would be lots of people who would give up both of those things too.

Tasmania in bid to phase out tobacco sales

August 22, 201211:43AM

TASMANIA'S upper house is calling for a ban on cigarette sales to anyone born after the year 2000.

The state's legislative council has unanimously backed a motion that would effectively start phasing out tobacco sales from 2018, the ABC has reported.

The ban would begin taking effect once people born in 2000 turned 18.

Independent MP Ivan Dean said the move would stop young people from taking up the habit.

"This would mean that we would have a generation of people not exposed to tobacco products,'' he said.

The move comes less than a week after the High Court ruled in favour of the federal government's introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes.

Tasmanian health minister Michelle O'Byrne has asked the state's Commissioner for Children to look at the proposal, the report said.

Tasmania has the highest rates of smoking in Australia.

Blackpool's smoke-free parks criticised

Signs have gone up in 13 parks
A smokers' lobby group has claimed there are no health benefits from banning smoking in parks, after 13 in Blackpool were designated smoke-free sites.

The rest of the blah is here...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-19280326

I actually agree with the point in the story about smoking related litter. But I've got a portable ashtray attached to my key-ring, because there aren't many out-doors ash trays around, so I'm not guilty.

I'll go along with no smoking in enclosed spaces, because I do believe in allowing non-smokers that comfort. I don't see why some public places can't be designated smoking spots though, then smokers and non-smokers can both be catered for amicably.

But out in the open, they need to just back off and stop with this dictating, and mind their own freaking business. Otherwise, when I rule the world, I'll make smoking compulsory for everyone over the age of consent. :P

Bargain Booze would have to diversify, that's for sure.

Saying it comes down to is personal responsibility is like the NRA saying "guns don't kill people, people do".

Alcohol & Cigarettes kill alot more people then guns do, I need to post the head to head comparison chart.

Your bringing up a thread that finished about 4 months ago.

I'm guessing , and this is by your posting over the 2/3 days that you have a family member who is heavily reliant on alcohol.

The best thing you can do is offer support , it might rejected but at least try :)

What i should have said is they need to take non-violent drug charge cases out of jail and turn at a few major prison facilities into rehab homes for addicts. It just did not come out right i guess i was ranting.
