This one actually.
The meanings that are the most directly practical are the ones that are sacrificed: the flavor, aroma and touch are abolished to the profit of the delusions that permanently lead sight and hearing astray.

There's an old Chinese curse that goes, ''May you live in interesting times''.

There is no such thing as Thin Air: Thin Air is full of the particles of creation.

Take something that costs you nothing but effort;
And practice, practice, practice until you make it something fabulous.

"...Wyrde saves oft the man undoomed
If he undaunted be....". (Beowulf)....

Stoneage... Medieval... way back there somewhere... I could cause a lot of ruckus then knowing what I know now, if I get to take back current knowledge to screw with the natives of that time :chuckle:
I'd have my own little posse...trying to burn me at the stake :villagers:
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

Drama of the unpleasant kind....
It is reported that it was the first of three curses of increasing severity, the other two being:
"May you come to the attention of those in authority" (sometimes rendered "May the government be aware of you"). This is sometimes quoted as "May you come to the attention of powerful people." (Alternately, "important people".)
"May you find what you are looking for." This is sometimes quoted as "May your wishes be granted.

wow I would have thought the first and last chinese curses were blessings (may you live in interesting times, May you find what you are looking for)

Perhaps they are good sayings but if it's delivered with evil intent it works the oppsosite way ? :giz

the 60's for me - a time when people still believed that they could bring about change and actually did so. before 'activism' became another business and a time when there was still community and a level of trust that just is not here anymore.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

There are many periods I would like to be able to visit for a short time but actually living there would be a different thing entirely.
Not least for the insanitary conditions you would have to adjust to.
