I am sure a few people here believe in one or two conspiracies. It might be the assassination of JFK or 9/11 or perhaps something like the New world order or how mediocrity is set to take over the world. If any of you are like me you have probably been called paranoid and told "not everything is a fucking conspiracy". You might even have questioned yourself. Perhaps one day you wondered to yourself "maybe those 19 guys did pull it off, after all it is kind of racist to say these 19 cave dwellers could not pull it off"

If paranoia has been a part of your whole world view or how others view you would you say that you keep it in mind or just disregard it and continue on. I have found that the "paranoia" remark/label/feeling is a pretty good balance for me if I start to get carried away into conspiracy land. At the same time though I still don`t want to be blind to what is really going on. I think I am fairly well balanced out and usually don`t feel paranoid.

I always remember what Robert Anton Wilson said. and indeed this video is much of what I am talking about here.

Also on the topic of Robert Anton Wilson he said we should use IS less and the world would be a much better place. Which I believe to be true. Saying well maybe the twin towers were brought down by aliens sounds better than aliens did 911.

What balances you if anything? What keeps you sane?

G'day I-baster.

Accepting responsibility for my own self expression, my thoughts, my words and my actions.

I was actually discussing some 'conspiracy' issues today with some people at the organic markets I go to every Sunday. A guy in the stall next to the one where we were discussing certain issues piped in stating that he'd overheard some of it and was interested (he was to busy to join the discussion though). We weren't being quiet and whispering, so those around us obviously could hear the discussion. I didn't notice anyone looking at us as if we were insane, though I obviously didn't see everyone's reaction to the discussion.

Personally, I avoid stating only theories and instead will impart facts that I have looked up / researched. IF I relate a theory, I will make sure that it is prefaced with it as either being a theory, or simply my own opinion. In relationship to how I am perceived by others, I find that this approach is accepted because I allow the individual to make up their own mind in relationship to the facts. No one has to agree with me for me to be able to have a civil and courteous discussion with them. In fact, I've had individuals mention to me afterward that they came across the information that I imparted in a previous discussion and it fit in with some other issue. That's always encouraging, as it means that they listened to what was discussed and the information helped them to see a larger picture.

Anyway, thank you for posting the Robert Anton Wilson video.

I don't care if I'm seen as sane or not, as I find many people to be completely oblivious to the world outside of media entertainment. As long as there are people, there will be conspiracies. It's the nature our social hierarchy. It's been going on as long as recorded history can account for, and not limited to those with power and influence. People of all walks of life conspire on a daily basis. It could be anything from Nigerian prince phishing over the internet, theft, murder, extortion, etc.

The people of the British colonies in now modern day America conspired against the crown in pubs. The goal was to create a false flag attack in Boston (Boston Tea party) by dressing as Native Americans. From there it gave them time to make further plans to overthrow the crown and form a new nation. America is a country that was founded upon conspiracy. Abraham Lincoln's assassination was planned via conspiring men who didn't agree with his policies. History is full of accounts of conspiracy, so it's a broad topic that isn't even debatable.
Form is merely a momentary manifestation of being, not a fixed reality.

History doesn't repeat itself, uninformed people repeat history.

To all progressive endeavors great or small, come unforeseen benefits on a scale larger than most give pause or contemplation of.

Mr. I's point is great.

Many in my country feel (those who bother to be in the know) that is there is nothing you can do about 'it'. 'It' is just the way it is. You can write your congressman or mayor or newspaper, but really, there is nothing you can do about 'it' because it is the way it is.
Just pay taxes, stop at red lights, keep your nose clean, etc., and you can get through this with a retirement (doubtful), and quickly and cleanly as possible.

Meanwhile, party and have as much fun as you can, sponsored by large name manufacturers.

Me, I prefer 'dog fishin'. So does my doggie.

Dog fishin' is great entertainment for both human and canine. You place a bone, treat or what not on the end of a fishing pole and cast a bit and watch the fun ensue!

Sure, they have marketed it, but the home grown version is best.

I fantasy that I might live atop a tall hill one day with puppy-dogs and look upon civilization below with gladness that I live atop a hill.

I despair for this world.

I still can remember when I very, very young I said I wanted to go home.

Naturally, my family told me I was home.

I told them I didn't want to be 'here', I didn't want to 'come back'.

Naturally, my family thought I watched too much TV; They were good, white, American, Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists.

Maybe I did; I did watch a lot of TV. Great babysitter, that TV, who knows?

The damn TV is still on an average of 22 hours a day. You'd think those boomers would have become tired of it after 50 years.

I balance it all out by forgetting for a day or two here or there...

Have been told "not everything is a fucking conspiracy" word for word...just happened to come from someone who didn't believe anything was a conspiracy which made me laugh (after I told him to shove it). And yes, I have questioned myself...my mind runs away with me on the possible reasons I may be wrong (crazy, nut job, don't wanna deal with reality (which someone has said to me before), and the most common one, tumor in the brain causing pressure and making me see/hear things that aren't actually there or being said).

What pisses me off about people saying stuff like that to me is when they start telling me that I have to live by someone elses rules and laws...when they start telling me I can't live self sustainably; when they tell me that a microwave does not effect water molecules; when they tell me that I am not capable of living off the land, or using solar power, or that I have brainwashed my mother (who was into all this before me), or I have brainwashed my 6 year old who I don't talk to about these things... or the worst one to come about yet, I have no experience in life and am a lazy woman for not going out and kissing ass and following the rules while they themselves cannot be bothered to do more than sit on their ass and whine and have yet to attempt to try and live on their own with no help from the outside.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

what keeps me balanced and as close to sane as i am likely to get is in looking forward rather then back - taking responsibility for me and acknowledging that there are things i can control and things i cannot. conspiracy theories are an interest not a focus in my life.

The official explanation for sept 11th IS a bloody conspiracy theory LOL!!

The problem with 90+% of people in the world is that they have actually decided to believe that if the govt says something it's not a conspiracy theory, even though it is theoretical and involves a conspiracy.

What keeps me sane is simply knowing that most of the crap in the world boils down to plain old ignorance.
The evidence for that is everywhere you care to look. There's people with PhD's who haven't a fucking clue where money comes from for example. There's no 'conspiracy theory' there just a 'stupidity fact'.

Look at them.

Everytime a boardroom meets, a Govt cabinet convenes, an advertising agency develops a pitch, a military strategy is discussed or the customer flow layout for a supermarket is determined, etc a conspiracy occurs. That's not wild speculation, that is their purpose.

I don't accept that's paranoia, it's damn obvious. To deny that conspiracies are an integral element of society is lazy and delusional.
Everything has it's fringes though and it's my belief that you have to seek quality evidence before you run around in a panic.

I agree with Wilson's observation that few conspiracies last longer than around a decade before the conspirators stab each other in the back.

The motive is always greed/self interest. You stick a load of greedy bastards in a room and the fake smiles don't take long to turn to snarls when it's not all going their way. Then they form sub-groups and conspire against each other.

All that we can do is keep an eye out and dodge as much flack as possible.
The conspiracies won't ever go away, greedy bastards will always prey upon the fear and insecurity of others.

Thank you all for responding. Instead of quoting everybody I just thankyou`d everybody because all responses thus far have been good well thought out by the looks of it.

I agree that it is ignorant to say conspiracies don`t happen. Of course they happen but you know most people will accept that two killers conspire but not say government agencies or religious groups. I think you all appear to be fairly well rounded and have a good natural balance. Also the points about taking a break and not making such things the focus is important.

Again thanks for replying.

As I said in another thread, I recommend adopting the position that ALL the conspiracies are real and then moving on...

As for balance.....maybe one day :emb:
