This is post number 101 for me so I thought I would make it about room 101. Not the t.v. show but from the book 1984 by George Orwell. What is your biggest fear or phobia. I ask this question and I am not even sure of my own answer. Maybe that is a good thing.

I shall think about it and get back to you.

heart defects. never used to bother me as much as it does now... like 3 or 4 years ago i suddenly became really squeamish about my heart. i mean i was always a little squeamish, i've been habitually checking my pulse since i was like 10, but suddenly it passed all of my other irrational fears. i should add: there's nothing wrong with my heart. heart disease does run in the family but mine is healthy for now. i'm just scared for no reason.

my biggest fear used to be skeletons but now i get a thrill out of looking at them.
They say the world isn't perfect. I have one question: "Why?"

I don't know what my biggest fear is - there are things that scare me, like sharks & crocodiles, but I don't have any morbid fears - except maybe when it comes to my children's safety.

But when I was a kid, right up until my late teens, if I was worried about anything, I'd have persistent night horrors. I'd be in that stage between sleep & wakefulness for ages, and think there was something in my bed, like razor blades, or broken glass or tarantulas. I'd often get up and strip the bed looking for them, and couldn't understand why they weren't there any more.

Loss. Losing something, especially if it's important...precious...how can I explain? I'm not talking about losing my keys or mobile phone :chuckle: more like losing my mind, or the ability to do something, losing my hearing, a loved one, that kind of thing.

I also have a fear of failure, so much so that it's like I've stopped trying, and I'm just drifting rudderless through the world as the days become months and months become years and it all slips through my fingers like sand.

Existential shit really :D

Phobias...Spiders...they don't ruin my enjoyment of life or anything though :D They just make me sweat cold, and give me shivers.

I'll catch them in a glass, but only if they're in a "gettable position" :chuckle: I hate it when they press themselves into the corner of the ceiling and you have to watch them like a hawk, and they're in the back of your mind all night and you can't really even watch a film in peace because you keep turning your eyes to the spider :D
Sometimes when you do relax your attention from the spider in the corner, you look back and it's gone :O Then you worry about where it's disappeared to and when and where it's next going to turn up to strike terror into you :O :chuckle:

Spiders piss me off.

I have a spider phobia, too, irrie! I can't deal with them myself. I remember having to get help from a neighbour when I was living alone and my flat had been invaded by a particularly "hairy horror"! :D

Other fears I have include wasps, being sick, losing people, failure, the dark, big dogs. Gosh, don't I sound like a big girl's blouse! :chuckle:

What is it about spiders? Everyone seems to be a little bit phobic about them.

This is pretty embarrassing, but I'm really frightened of dogs to the extent that I have recurring nightmares about them. Little Yorkies and Jack Russles not so much. Once I get to know a dog I'm alright, but I could never be on my own with it. I used to go trail running, but there are too many people walking around with big dogs off the lead. :(

@ Mandy

When I manage to catch a spider, I'll tape the cardboard to the glass because I don't trust myself to hold the cardboard in place! :O Incase my hand slips with my nervousness and the spider escapes and runs onto me :D I'll take it outside, lay the glass on the ground and carefully remove the tape. Then I'll tip the glass and jump backwards about 5 feet :emb:

@ Lesley

I'm a bit scared of dogs as well, I've crossed the road many a time because I've seen a dog in the distance. I was bitten by a dog as a kid and still have the scar so that's probably why :chuckle:

Hi, lesley - I wonder if a fear of spiders is sort of inborn? After all, it's widely believed that modern humans evolved out of Africa where there are many pretty deadly spiders, and it would make sense to naturally fear and avoid them! Also, they do look really alien!

I totally get the fear of dogs thing - I'd be nervous to be left alone with one, too!

Thanks for that, Gilly! :P My step-dad has a few horror stories to tell about camel spiders from when he worked out in the Middle East!

(BTW, they are not true spiders in that they are not arachnids - they are in fact solifuges, and have not 8 but 10 legs! Bet you always wanted to know that! :D )

Dogs running loose love to chase bicycle's and they sometimes get very aggressive,I have only actually been attacked once, and the result was minor just a bite or two but I have developed a little bit of a phobia as to watching for them and being cautious.

The thing about large aggressive breeds is that a particular dog can be yours and it loves you,but when you throw another dog into the mix they will become more apprehensive,I like to call it more smell oriented. Food battles, mood of the other dog or dogs, personality of the other dogs, your actions, then everything seems to get intensified, meaning their pack mentality comes to the surface more, and even the dog most close to you is not quite the same,if you watch closely you will notice this.
Caution and knowing how your dog will react around other dogs is a must, especially if you go somewhere that allows them to run free with other dogs.

A dog will turn on it's owner but in my experience it has been the result of the actions of another dog that has triggered it, and as I said something in the nature of the larger breeds and their pack mentality overcomes their normal sense and reactions to you in mostly rare cases.

And my health and mobility to answer the main OP question is my biggest phobia and wanting it to stay well

I am so afraid of my phobia that I fear posting it. :hide:

Drowning.

Something I almost had to deal with yesterday indirectly. The dust hasn't settled on that particular 'issue' yet so I shan't be divulging further as yet.

Don't get the thing with spiders folks, in Britain at least they're harmless and beneficial. They eat all the nasty insects that lurk in your house ;)

And dogs. Never been bitten by a dog, haven't had one even stay aggressive for long once I've looked it firmly in the eye and 'connected' with it, seriously. I love dogs, and they know it. :)

My 101 would be pain, physical pain.

I think I fear closed minds and anybody who is hostile towards me. Not sure how that would ever play out in a 101 situation. It is not that I am scared for me as much as I am scared for them and for us all.

all my posts should have an insomniac disclaimer.
