My grandfather hasn't been doing well since my grandma passed away in May. His health started to go down hill after. About a month ago he was admitted to a nursing home to help care for him, as the home healthcare aids couldn't provide him with the services he needed. I had been visiting him and watched him decline. More recently it was determined he wouldn't be around much longer.

Earlier today while at work, I started to zone out some. I swore I heard a familiar voice call my name. I looked down an isle and saw my grandfather standing there. It spooked me a bit, so I called my sister at lunch to ask if he had passed. He was still alive at the time, but unresponsive. I went home and took a nap. I had a dream I was sitting on a park bench with him, while the faint noise of the radio played in the background. It was Louis Armstrong (Satchmo) - What a wonderful world. He told me not to worry about him, and that he was going to go be with grandma. He looked at me with a smirk on his face and said, "Age gracefully, but don't get old." He stood up then and said goodbye. I looked up to see a silvery flying disc in the sky as he started to emit an orange and gold light, and phased out. I was awoken by my sister who had stopped over to tell me had just passed away.

Have you, or do you know anyone who's had similar experiences?

I saw a white funnel shape in the corner of my room. I didn't think much of it and assumed it was just a trick of the light, but a few minutes later my brother called to inform me that my grandmother had just passed away literally minutes before. We were quite close and it hasn't happened with anyone else since, though.

Thank you for sharing, indy.

This experience is really intense, and in my opinion the person near death or that has already passed was thinking of you very intensely at their moment of death.

I have heard stories of people on their death bed think that long lost and dead relatives of theirs are in the next room, and they are or have been speaking to them,in particular the mother of the near death person.

I'm glad your grandmother stopped by to see you before she departed. Thanks for sharing Ab. :)

Thank you Rick. He and I were close. He was a mentor for me, and taught me quite a bit. It's interesting that you mentioned people seeing or conversing with passed loved ones. Last week he was telling me about a conversation he had with a loved one who passed away in 2004 to breast cancer. I thought it was the pain killers he was taking at the time, but I'm not so sure now.

A hospice nurse my mom knew when she came over to visit they had coffee and they would chat, personally I couldn't do that job,my feelings of sympathy for the near death patients would be overwhelming.

Anyway.............
She said it was common that the near death patients had vivid conversations with their past relatives, and even would mention in detail what clothes they had, on or a long forgotten event was clear to them again.

Some medical people or shrinks would say it's a part of the brain being reactivated and recall, but I believe there's more to it.

That is a tough job, and like you, I couldn't do that either. That's wild, my grandfather was a lot like that. He was very coherent despite being on painkillers. I think both accounts are correct. Personally I think the Pineal gland may be a physical gateway of sorts. I think it gets activated near death to allow connection to the 'ether'/spirit realm/astral, etc.

When my gran passed away (cancer), she was closing her eyes and having 'normal, everyday' conversations with relatives who'd died one minute, then opening her eyes and saying things to my grandad, like, "Don't spend the rent money on beer", and telling him which drawer he'd find it in. It was as though she was getting things ready on both sides before she left. :)

As for myself, when my Sarah was only 3 weeks old, I conceived again. I had a miscarriage at 3 months, and was obviously choked up about it.

Because my husband was working in Norway and couldn't get a flight immediately, my sister took some days holiday from work, and came up to look after Sarah while I went into hospital.

The minute I'd lost the baby, the hospital sent me home in a taxi, with my hair standing up all over the place, and wearing a blood-stained nightie.

Nobody could say anything right (except my sister, because I think her brain works the same as mine) even though I knew it was because they didn't know what to say, and were only trying to be helpful.

I was lying on my the bed, snuggling Sarah, and feeling sad. Then - it's hard to explain, because it wasn't like I was willingly conjuring up images with my imagination - it was as though a vision just forced itself into my mind's eye that took me by surprise, of a tiny baby girl, surrounded by red light, and I experienced a connection with her, and an unexpected, overwhelming feeling of peace and happiness. From that point, I was fine.

My husband says it was my own subconscious mind looking after me. He might be right. But to me, it was definately a very real and vivid thing that occurred.

This may or may not be off-topic, but........

Donkey-years ago, there was a bunch of us "couples" who were really close. We spent every weekend and holidays together, the craiach was fierce, and there was a lot of love there. However, we never, never, never, never, ever met up on a Sunday. It was a kind of unwritten law.

Then, one Sunday we were at my then fiance's aunties house for dinner, as per normal, I became agitated, and shouted "I need to go to John's house, now!" So we borrowed a car and drove to John's house . As his wife opened the door, I said to my fiance
"She'll say he's late home".......and she did. Then the phone rang, I said it would be the hospital calling, and it was.

My mate had been in a serious car crash (he's ok now),

How did I know that?

I did dream about her a couple of days after indy. She was in perfect health and dressed very smartly. She came to collect me and take me somewhere. We chatted about how happy she was and ended up in a hospital ward. I asked who we were visiting and she just smiled. She then pulled back the curtain and it was her, but she was lying in one of the beds. This second version of her assured me that she was fine and getting better all the time, while the other version of her stood by the bed.

It was a bit bizarre, but did make me feel a little better.

My mother was with her when she passed and she told me that shortly before, she was looking all around the room, and that her expression was one of surprise, as if she was seeing people she hadn't seen for a long time. My mother explained that she was talking to her the whole time, but that her attention kept drifting off and her eyes seemed to be looking at someone/something on the ceiling above my mother.

Before she died, she had been very ill and bed-ridden. About a week before she passed, she had a sudden surge of energy and was up and about for a couple of days. To me, it was as if she knew she was ready to go but had some things she wanted to take care of before she went.

I've had a few spiritualist messages purporting to be from her since her passing. The most interesting one was regarding her burial. She had insisted that she wanted to be cremated but for one reason or another, she wasn't. I made a big deal of this at the time, because it was something we had talked about. The message simply stated that I was not to worry about her grave, as she quite likes it where she is, even though it wasn't what was talked about. That's good enough for me.

I can honestly say she was my closest relative and I miss her very much. So many times lately, I have wished she was still around for me to talk to, as I always did, when things got too messy. I hope you're doing OK indy, and know that we are all here if you want to talk.

EDIT: Talking of pineal gland activation, my grandmother had been a bit negative about spiritual matters for most of her life. Her sister had some very strong spiritualist skills while alive, but I think my gran was a bit fearful of it all. Anyway, towards the end she started to give what I can only describe as 'readings' to people that came to visit her in her bed upstairs, myself included. She pulled out an old glass paperweight and used to stare into it and relay things to people. I think she was doing it half in jest, but some of the stuff she came out with was pretty accurate.

Good thread we have here...

I've had my share of dead relatives but not a single one of them have said hi before leaving. I don't know if they really didn't like me that much. :( All my grandparents are dead, none of them have visited me when going or after. I wish they had paid me a visit and told their time is up.

By the way, I have this friend (who I haven't heard about in months now, women do that to nerds ya know..) who just fought off cnacer. He's kind of into this woo-woo stuff also. I have made a deal with him years ago, that who ever of us dies first, WILL visit the one who still alive to tell that there's stuff beyond 5-sense words and to inform that it's time for a ride. ;) Well I hope that the day will not come by anytime soon.

The friend I mentioned saw his uncle in the guys funeral.. And in one of the pictures there was a white cartoonish bird, the kind which his dead uncle used to draw everywhere when ever he found a pencil... Then they get one of those bird in a photo from his funeral. The guy had interesting sense of humor. :D

They have not 'visited' you that you know of, Hex. I'm sure they are around you a lot, especially when you're doing your music thing and are in the zone.

Mr. Indigo,

I'm sorry for your loss! Though sad, it is a beautiful story!

I've never experienced anything before someone passed but I've always had dreams of deceased people; even those I wasn't close to!

Sadly, I was closest to my grandpa and whenever I dream of him, I either have a hard time remembering what happened or something keeps us apart. There have been dreams where we are together but I wake up unable to recall what transpired. So frustrating!

My uncle, who was a very cool dude and died too young, has come to me often in dreams. Once he told me about watching his son go to school and I asked if he could listen to music; he said that he could hear music.

After my best friend's dad was killed in an auto accident he appeared in my dream. I told him I was sorry he was dead and he said, "That's okay; I would have died of cancer, anyway."

It's weird because they are different from another dreams. It's like all the other people in the dream are like "background", like part of a scene and I always know the person is dead and usually mention it. And it's just me and them. It's strange.

Interesting topic! :)

hey sorry to hear about your grand father indy.
its weird coincidence that you ask this, and the thread is here today, but yesterday i was a psychic. i shit you not. i was outside and we were talking about inappropriate use of 'lol' and it ended up i said it would be innapropriate to send a text message your dad died lol... not something to joke about i guess but we were smoking and it was fairly hilarious to us.
meanwhile, inside.... someone got a phone call and they were super upset. outside we all say oh shit what if someones dad really died? it turned into russian roulette, there was only a few of us and nobody wanted their dad dead ofc, and we knew by that point someone was dead.
anyway, she came out, and it was her boyfriends dad, but none of us really knew any of them. which doesnt make sense to me much, that i would suddenly be a psychic and its about someone i dont really know dying.

later last night i had dmt and i drifted through i guess hyperspace. i saw a sun get made and i was on top of a mexican pyramid. those aztec things, not hookers and donkeys. dont know why i said that, but it sounds like something that could sound dirty. like a dirty sanchez.
but anyway;
last afternoon someone had died, and then last night as i was coming down, i was born. not some weird medical birth out of vaginas, but a soul birth. i mention this because it was so beautiful. i dont know whats your beliefs, but your grandfathers happy, im sure of it man.

well, ill get out of your thread with my vaguely related stories since it wasn't a loved one and it wasnt a dream, and they were already dead.

peace mr indy.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. But maybe keep in mind that it's just his physical form that died, the rest of him stepped into the next life (one that isn't quite as hectic and chaotic as this physical plain is).

It sounds like he came to visit you all right :) Either just before passing or right after as I believe the spirit does hang around and wait for the physical body to die, especially when it has pain attached to it.

I've never seen them right before they pass...but I have seen them immediately after they pass. Didn't even know yet, and my brother showed up in the doorway of my room. He brought a friend of his with, someone only his wife would know about, to add validity to the message he was passing on.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

Sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing, Indie.
I am sure he is reunited with his wife that went before him. :) :rose:

I haven't had any dreams prior to someone passing before that I can recall. When I was a teen and struggling with paranormal activity going on and frightened about it, my great-grandmother who had passed visited to me in a dream where my mother and I were discussing the phenomenon I was experiencing. She floated up to me with a very stern look on her face, as if she was angry and disappointed with me for feeling fear. She telepathically told me to be strong. I remember she was glowing and wore a white gown which draped over her shoulder like a Grecian garment. Her hair was long, about the length it would have been is she's stopped cutting it which she did very often. I knew it was her and a real contact. I still remember very vividly the encounter.

When my mother's sister was murdered back in the 60s, she would visit my mother every night for a month in the astral and take her flying around. And suddenly she stopped. They were both in their early teen years. My mom says they were very mystical moments that she will always cherish.
