Well....I can't speak for a 2 year old having ADHD. Honestly I think the Doctor who said that is full of shit.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 16,and put on Adderall, which in it's generic form was called....AMPHETAMINE SALT.

Yep. They gave me strong amphetamines to treat the ADHD. Now for those of you who know me,you can imagine giving amphetamines to a 16 year old me. It was like throwing gasoline on a goddamn fire. Anyway after constant use and abuse of this drug,I finally told the Dr. that I wanted off of them because I was having severe headaches. No doubt caused by the frequent speed usage.

I'll tell ya...I do have thoughts zooming through my mind all the time, and i'm not exactly the most focused person. However as I've gotten older I've learned to embrace it. I haven't been on drugs for ADHD in like 6 years, and I learned to live with it.

Sure I may self medicate now and again... :spliff: but I make it.

My advice. Keep your young un off the drugs. Teach him to look at it as a gift rather than a hinderance, and make sure when he's a teenager he doesn't self medicate too much.

In my opinion he should be ok. Good luck.

In my experience, the medical profession seems to thrive on generating (very often) completely unnecessary worry where little ones are concerned. For the 1st couple of years, they summon you to see a team every few months for check-ups (I don't know if it's the same in other countries).

If you've plenty of younger brothers & sisters, or nephews & nieces you're close to in the family, you're better prepared, but if not, and it's all new to you as first time parents, they can scare the arse off you.

I remember them telling me my son was a bit on the small side & it might cause all sorts of medical problems. Bollocks. He's like a tank now, with the strength of Jeff Capes!

They also told me they thought he might be a bit deaf. And they do actually say things sometimes in a real fear-mongering kind of way, instead of matter-of-factly. Luckily, I knew him well enough to realise he was just not answering them because he didn't like them, not because he couldn't hear them (as was proven by a hearing test).

^ Don't jump to conclusions yet though - as I said, here, over here you're summoned every so many months to have them inspected by busybodies for the first couple of years.

True, and I'm still getting the occasional letter about the MMR jabs even now. I'm all for giving support to parents of young children and monitoring the health of little ones, but if people find it intrusive it's not cool.

Well my two are aged 18 & 10, and it happened with both of them - the first while located in the north east, and the second here in the north west..

To be fair, that was who I contacted when I noticed my lad squinting before he turned 2, and they sorted out his eye-sight tests, so they are there to support you & check the children are being looked after properly - but as I said, they do lots of busy-bodying and creating anxiety over 'phantom' ailments that never materialise.

I was in the UK with all my kids 5 or 6 years ago.
Didn't have any of that.
I did have a local nurse to visit the missus for 1 week immediately after the birth but then nothing afterwards other than the social worker who turned up after the nurse but you know what I told them to do, lol :)

Certainly nothing about mandatory regular doc visits. The kids only went of they were genuinely ill.
Its usually the dentists now and then and me once to the docs in the past 6 years for spasming muscles in my back one morning that was a hell of a way to wake up I'll tell ya...sigh, the joys of getting old.

It wasn't the doc - it was a 'team' of midwives & stuff - I can't remember what the title was they gave themselves, but I had to take them to a clinic (not Dr's surgery) to be mauled at. It was all recorded, along with their vaccinations & weight etc in a little red book. I only recently found Alex's & tossed it out.

Yeah I remember getting a little red book too. They still didn't go the docs though as there was nothing 'mandatory' about it ;)

They'd write the appointments in my little red book. :conf:

Why did you not have to go if I had to? Although yours are younger than mine - maybe it's changed over those years. I didn't like it, because they always spoke down to you, as if you didn't know what you were doing. And Alex didn't like them (maybe picking up that I didn't) so always acted up, and blanked them and things.

Nirvana, I believe you'll find this video very interesting and I sincerely hope it helps confirm your decision not to accept medication for your little boy.

From around the three minute mark, ADHD is covered.

My eldest is 15 and the youngest is 6.
I certainly remember them trying to talk down to me and force all sorts of crap on me, I just nipped it in the bud is all.
