Serious question here...

Should we really enjoy eating?

Or is it just something we do to provide our body nutrition?

With Obesity on the rise it seems people must enjoy eating to much.

I think so! (and am not obese)
The meanings that are the most directly practical are the ones that are sacrificed: the flavor, aroma and touch are abolished to the profit of the delusions that permanently lead sight and hearing astray.

I think so to, but it's a luxury to be able to appreciate tasty food, and I really feel empathy for those on earth who won't ever experience many of the pleasures of certain foods.

And many people over indulge to get this pleasure, that eating is uncontrollable for them, and they may develop weight problems, I guess it's debatable if weight gain is their fault or not, I don't judge them.

I love eating so much, got into trouble by my art teacher at school when he asked us to draw something we enjoy doing, I drew myself eating, idiot teacher! Im not fat at all, my ex gf's brother was really obese and he would say I just really like my food, theres a difference between enjoying it and being addicted/greedy. It used to disgust me but then I seen him the same as an alcoholic or a heroin addict, real addiction thats very detrimental to health. I wish I could enjoy eating as much as I do but here in south east asia most of the food is terrible, such a struggle sometimes :(

eating is a chore
You would think that not getting any pleasure from food would make me eat healthily, doesn't though :dunno:

We need to eat, to fuel ourselves

So why not enjoy it? Enjoy, but don't be greedy.

Don't eat shite though, i.e. processed foods, they are addictive due the receptor-grabbers put into them.

Do you really think these lions eat this Hippo alive right in front of it's child for enjoyment?

Or do they do it for nutrition?

That's just nature, RA - red in tooth & claw. Animals need to eat - they appear to enjoy it. Why wouldn't they? Predators will calculate when to give up a chase, based on energy expended versus nutritional benefit of catching the prey.

Regarding us humans - I enjoy cooking and eating, and although I feel sad that there are people elsewhere with insufficient food, I see no reason why I should feel guilty about extracting pleasure from food.

Where do humans get off thinking they are superior to animals?

Because we created guns so we can shoot them before we eat them?

Well that backfired on us considering how many humans are shooting each other.

Enjoy your Veal while you can because in the next life you might be the prey.

I doubt anybody who eats animals actually believe in afterlife or reincarnation.

Well that's changing the flavour of the thread to vegetarianism, rather than enjoyment of food. I make a point of not contributing to threads on that subject, because I've seen too many that roll on & on & on. So I hereby withdraw my last post from this thread. Nobody read it, OK! :D

Some schools of thought lean towards humans being pre-programmed to seek out high fat, protein and high carb foods as they are high in energy and/or nutrients. It makes perfect sense from a survival view point. So, we are probably meant to enjoy certain foods. The problem is that our ancestors didn't have ice cream and other tasty treats on tap.

Ice cream is almost irresistible, seen a article on it , and because of the texture ice cream is extremely comforting to people that may be upset about something.
By the way great to see you back and all is well for you I hope

So glad your OK

I'm doing fine thanks.
Not trying to get to technical but that article I read said that the molecular makeup of ice cream that texture that makes it have that effect on people and a very calming reaction when try eat it.

I love yogurt, and mix fruit in it, cranberries in particular, and I can feel the benefits of this mixture on my body almost immediately in my opinion anyway, that may be my most enjoyable eating experience, yogurt and fruit.

Yoghurt is damn tasty, sounds good with cranberries Rick. :) I am a big fan of some coconut yoghurt that they do here in the UK. That ice cream article actually sounds quite familiar.

Right now I'm loving avocado chopped up with anchovies and mixed with beans and chickpeas, seasoned with cider vinegar, sea salt, black pepper, garlic and chilli. It sounds weird, but it's so tasty.

Lets put it simply...
You better keep yer hands off my freaking snickers bar covered in hot sauce or I will bite yo arm off!
:chuckle:

Seriously though, there are eating disorders, beyond being anorexic... people can be addicted to eating, or eating because of stress, etc... and all the processed crap full of additives and preservatives only add to the issues.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way
