Does anyone here keep lizardy things?

My daughter's decided she wants one of these...



The thing is, she'd need to keep its tank in her room, to avoid it being snacked on by our jack russells. So, I can read up on them, but I'd always prefer to speak to people who've experience of keeping beasts themselves if possible.

I need to know things like, are they happiest kept in pairs or singly - are they hygenic - is it cruel to confine one to it's tank & excursions around a single room???

Oh, I see. When I saw the 'Bearded Dragons' title I thought it was an euphemism for, you know, lady equipment, so I accidently clicked on it.
