This is what the societal system is all about at the end of the day.
Its falling apart at the seams and they only have themselves to blame for pushing things too far.
The media smells blood and they're slowly changing sides I guess.

Bourgeois reformism, even the likes of BP and other Petro-Chem giants are developing a "conscience", thinking about the atmosphere and future profitability, Capitalism is responding to external and financial pressures really with multi-nationals turning their attentions to green energies, being more "transparent", ethical, etc.

I think andyh is right it's what this current societal structure is about, sustainable profits.

You might think it's some hidden good working it's way out, however I don't think there is a hidden bad or hidden good, this slow gradual reform is what it will take to prolong the status quo/profitability and class distinctions as they stand, appeasement.

This the truth, imho.

This is why bullies look jumpy, politicians get tetchy and dictators are known for their paranoia.

Good is not the opposite of bad.

Bad is the absence of Good.

I can prove this simply by treating the next response unfairly.

This is rubbish. In the absence of good, there can be 'neutral'. Bad is the opposite of good. :poke:

nothing is good or evil/bad... some things just are.
for example, if a tornado blows through a town, kills 1000 people including children, and dozens of animals, levels buildings and trees...would you consider it evil or bad? no, it was just a force of nature, it just is.
does that mean condone the bad things that happen? does it mean condone evila ctions? nope...dont condone them, but some things just happen.

gotta love the sz's ability to go off on a tangent in any subject :)

its my suspicion that buried within the establishment there is at least one powerful cell that for whatever reason is trying to expose as much establishment dirt as possible.
i'm not convinced that this is an attempt by the establishment to build a new platform for the future. it could be that its a kind of takeover bid but i dont think so, my gut says these people are acting out of genuine concern...
there is just so much of the hideous underbelly of the establishment beast being shown nowadays. now we have a thatcherite being dragged in to the child abuse 'purge'.

whichever is the real motivation i suggest the people would be well advised to be extreegmely vigilant...

Fair enough for the comparison as it stands, however you're using the weather which is not 'alive' and if not thinking then cannot 'judge' good/bad actions.

Jimmy Savile for example was definitely bad. He knew what he was doing but went ahead with it anyway for his own personal pleasure/amusement.
His behaviour did not just 'happen' like the weather ;)

If everything just 'happens' then none of us are responsible for our own actions because it just 'happens'.

You may aswell just give up bothering about all of whats going on because it just 'happens' lol :p

I agree with stars.

Calling something good or bad is just a cop out, I used to do art quite frequently and if I showed people my work and they were like "oh it's good" I'd be disappointed, you could tell they didn't try to study it or contemplate it, likewise in the case of Savile as example, to call him or those like him "bad" is simply to say we're good and it's our right to banish, lock up or erase the bad, needless to say we never come to an understanding of pedofilia or sadism as a subject, we never come to learn really what motivates and feeds such behaviours, to call somebody bad, to make things black and white, applying an objective right and wrong to things or people inhibits our ability or even desire to understand them fully.

Basically it seems to me, (ie ES on Communism, or KOTG on Anarchism) if you know nothing about something then you call it good or bad based on how much it conforms to your moral standards.

Ash knows.....

but guev, raping innocence out of a kid is obviously bad. i already know what motivates a pedophile - easy targets. its a choice and for some of them its obsession. if they cant tell right from wrong then they are not mentally competent.

but as to an organized secret force for good, i dont know.. you either act for yourself or you act for others. most of life is motivated by self gain and usually the quickest route is to trip someone over so you can cross the finish line first.

i think because they want to. nobody made them do it. they arent the victim except perhaps of their own desire.

Attitudes change with the generations - it seems to be the human passion to be different from those who came before them - to attempt to be 'better' - every new societal development brings inequality with it and it takes time or people to understand the consequences of any change. As more change happens we eventually find out about those who have benefited most from that change and those who have benefited lesser demand a new change so that they too can benefit.

I truly believe that the path to hell is paved with good intentions - that people genuinely believe the policies and the practices they advocate are for the best - and that is what is so dangerous about them. I am in no doubt that bush and blair et al really did believe that going to war with iraq was the best thing to do - I am in no doubt that hitler and stalin believed 100% that they were on the side of 'good' - and that is what is so bloody scary - everyones idea of what is 'good' for society is different and it is those who have the benefit of hindsight who get to decide whether it was or was not - which in turn influences their opinion on what is and is not 'good' - and so the cycle continues.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.
