I'm aware that to most folk the idea of past-lives is a bit woo but I think this is relevant to the thread.

Dr Brian Weiss wrote a book called Many Lives, Many Masters. In the book Weiss focuses on one patient with personal issues whom he (eventually) began to treat through past life regression.
Events from her previous incarnations were manifesting themselves in her current journey and by dealing with these 'past' problems Weiss was able to help his patient change the life she was leading.
It made me think of people who seem to have an irrational fear and the possibility that they were carrying baggage from past lives.

Like I said, this is probably woo-mock central to most but it's a subject that piques my curiosity.

I wouldn't mock it, Hugo - I think it's a possibility. Perhaps I've no irrational fears because I died peacefully in my bed in my last life.

My only irrational fears were from my youth when I used to get all freaked out and frightened by some song lyrics. Some of them gave me nightmares.

Maybe I was done-in by a lyricist during a previous trip. I will steer well clear of Bernie Taupin in this life in case another tries to do me in.

I wondered about fears being rooted in past lives too. Like, why are so many people afraid of dentists? I think its because of how brutal dentistry was in the past. And people fears of spiders could be because long ago people were tortured by being put in boxes with spiders, or so I heard. I also think that when drivers have to swing way out to make a right turn (a left turn in the UK) that it is because they have carried over the habit of driving a wagon with horses. That's not really a fear though, is it

I'd always seen fear spiders as a racial memory example but if the possibility of a memory carried over into another life is considered maybe it could be both.

We could be getting all Jung at this rate but I think the idea of a collective memory is an attractive one. Not sure that it would cover fears of being eaten by stair climbing sharks mind.

Racial memory? Like a tribal collective consciousness? How would that work and why would they be afraid of spiders?

The idea being that we have inherited memories. Danger being a good example whether it's being wary of poisonous crawlies or not sticking ya hand in the fire. Even though I'm not sold on it I do like it as an interesting idea.

What I do like about it is that it suggests we're either born with pre-knowledge installed and waiting or we can access a memory base that isn't within our physical bodies.
