Mikey:
Revisionism is saying that Stalin’s and Pol Pot’s religious purges are religioulsy motivated.
That's not quite what I think, I also don't think either were secretly practising or believing in a religion, out of interest what isn't revisionism then, perhaps saying that Stalin and Pol Pot's religious purges were "ideologically" motivated?
Do you see what I mean using the term religious thought? It doesn't necessarily relate to a particular religion or religious system, there are many neo nazi's, many on the Left, many in the world full stop who think religiously, in black and white terms of good and bad, I've heard agnostic spiritualist's and anarcho atheists suggest large amounts of people should be wiped out, it's this idea there is a right way things should be as ordained from on high, or some human or moral order to the universe as defined independent of religious institutions but based on religious thought, the idea that order is lacking on earth now due to the evil ones etc.
Think how dominant religion has been since the Neo Lithic revolution and development of Cattle, (you do believe the earth is older than 10,,000 years right, I know your religious but don't think you're dumb), it's played a huge part in the development of civilization, our languages, morals, perspectives, education systems etc etc, the way we interact with the world, and the way we experience the world, I'd say it's only been 20 or 30 years in the UK that religion has been absent in the state education system, even now remnants remain but it's getting fairly clear to most people it's quite obvious there is no actual god, or natural heirarchy or after life, it's a comfortable belief in an uncomfortable reality, i think that's what murder comes down to really, defense of the tribe, fear of outsiders, nationalistic cultural bias, sustaining one's delusions against other potentially threatening delusions?
Look at how religiously minded the Bible Bashing Colonists to America were, they thought god lead them to the new world, look how brutal they were and self righteous despite the atrocities they committed in the name of their god, there's a recurring theme in the last few thousand mikey mate, I'm sorry, I don't hold you responsible, or think less of you for reforming the doctrine along more acceptable lines for you personally, I think that's a good thing really.
