Gilly it can cause a perforated ear drum. It is all to do with frequency and if you hit the frequency at exactly the same level , the ears can not cope :(

Not only bollocks but in fact the connection comes from Alexander Bell's first experiments in reproducing sound over a relay.
So if it were true then Bell would have been deafened which would have resulted in me being able to make and eat my meal without some fuck calling every 10 minutes about missold PPI!
