Why would the Christian healers be praying for his intestine to 'supernaturally' repair / grow back, when school RE classes taught us that any such magical doings are deemed the work of the Devil?

Miraculous healings have been recorded for thousands of years and aren't just the preserve of Christianity.
I don't doubt his telling of the OBE and I'll even stick my neck out and admit to accepting the abilites of these healers. If it's the strength of their faith that healed him then I'd suggest that the ability was latent in them and regardless of what they believed in they still would have succeded.

Is, "I command *whatever* to 'supernaturally' happen, in the name of Jesus Christ", actually classed as praying? Perhaps it's me who's just perceiving it askew, because the only praying I've ever heard irl has consisted of people appealing to God / Jesus to do something, and emphasising how humble and powerless and grateful for existence we humans are. That's the kind of thing those teachers would have encouraged. I've heard commanding in the Lord's name in exorcisms, depicted on TV - but that's a ritual, not prayer, isn't it?
