Do drugs expand your mind? Do they awaken human creativity, or at least amplify it?
A great many musicians who've written great music have taken drugs, did they create those wonderful tunes because of that, or despite it?

Do drugs give people great insights into our existence? Or do they make people think they're having great insights because they're high as fuck? :D

Did Cannabis really fuel our evolution like Bill Hicks said? :chuckle: I suppose that's an impossible question to answer. What if all cannabis did was trigger the invention of Pizza?

As a non "mind expanding drug" user, I'm wondering what the big deal is.

I've had my fair share. Don't bother anymore though apart from a smoke. The cons started to outweigh the pros.
I've had some amazing experiences on drugs & some of the best laughs I've ever had in my life - especially on acid.
I've had many a great moment with E but it's mostly false. Other 'fast' drugs such as coke don't agree with me. I've also had some really crap experiences.
It certainly helps a more creative mind - but probably only if you're creatively inclined to begin with.

Same can, in the right circumstances drugs are fun and okay. By circumstances I mean situations. They can make you look at the world in a different view, relax you, open up sides of yourself you've never seen before in good situations. In bad ones, you wind up on a serious trip that leaves you in a panic.

Can it help you see through the veil? Possibly I guess, if you're consciously working on it, and you just need that little bit of help to let go of what society says is okay to see and believe in.

Depends on the drug and the person involved.

Its wrong to say all drugs do that as I doubt aspirin has much of an effect on the mind :)

Drugs can certainly expand your experience and therefore perhaps change your outlook, Huxley seemed to think so :)

If you can take a good entheogenic experience and not have an expansive experience, you're a tougher cookie than me . :)

This is not an area of discussion that can be approached with absolutes in mind though.

It's something I've always been scared to explore, having seen the severely detrimental effects of drugs on someone close. Yet, at the same time, I've read so much that makes me want to have a dabble that it's frustrating. I read Hancock's Supernatural a few years back and wanted to explore (though in reality, I wouldn't want to go straight in as a novice with the heavy stuff).

So many books on the occult describe various drugs as being kind of like the short cut entry to where a Buddhist monk might have to meditate on for decades to achieve access to! But I'm scare of addiction.

Some authors though say this short cut method causes some kind of rip in the soul. I don't know how much of what's written is BS.

I know that once when I was very drunk indeed, I had an epiphany - some kind of important insight into the meaning of life. :D

So, knowing I'd just be hungover & forgetful the next day, I made a point of writing it down. I sat there for hours writing.

In the morning, I was hungover, but remembered what I'd done, and felt excited. But when I looked at what I'd written, it was many pages of beautifully crafted symbols that I had no idea of the meaning of. It was really neat, and not remotely like my handwriting, but just lots of lovely symbols, grouped together like letters in a word, but it meant bugger all to me. :D

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about dub, (probably why I should stay away from mind altering substances) but I thank you for your contribution regardless :D

I'm talking natural psychedelics irre. If approached with respect the experience is invariably expansive, contractive? ;)

But when i said about absolutes i mean its a bit like a lot of other stuff, one person's yes it's a help is another's no it's a hindrance.

I've seen drug use first hand...it ultimately killed my uncle, and all my step-father has to show for his years of indulgience is far less teeth and a few coronaries.

I like the idea of heading off into the desert with a shaman, and partaking in a Peyote journey, and getting answers, and coming out the other side unscathed, but wiser, and stronger.

I would only take natural shit, not man made crap. If ever decided to go on that trip. I don't think it's likely that I will though.

If I'm ever offered crack again I will force myself to say no and there's no deviation from that. Decided a longtime ago after an opportunity arose that allowed me to try some really good shit over the course of a week. It blew me away and was so fucking good that I know for sure I'd be an addict if I wasn't a mother. The pleasure from that week has lingered with me ever since. Very powerful stuff.

Far as I'm concerned, it's far too good and for that reason I'll never touch it again.

I stopped short of trying crack for that very reason. Just one hit and you're psychologically addicted for life.

(don't be tempted to ''free-base'' coke either - thats basically what crack is)

I'll agree with that. Wouldn't be the same for everyone though and it would definiately depend on the quality. The quality in my case was superb and not something I'll forget. It's firmly rooted in a little box in my head and it can bloody well stay there! I'm already drawing in breath at the very thought ffs :D
