I think that online bonds can be just as strong as those forged offline but as with real life friendships you have to work on them and they need to be a two way street.

I used to do a lot of online gaming and formed close friendships with many people - since stopping gaming some of those people I rarely have any interaction with at all nowadays - but those who I have made effort to keep in touch with and whom reciprocate that effort I do consider some of my best friends.

I also don't think of anyone as a 'disposable' friend - some people drift in and out of your life dependent on how much you have in common at a particular time - if this place ever shuts down ten or so years down the line I will still be occasionally thinking about folk here and hoping that life is treating them well.

I guess any form of relationship is what the participants make it.

This thread show's why we need to get a few meet-ups going. I went to loads of Ickey meets, and it was awesome, made some friends for life. It's also better when you get home and now understand your vitual-friends better when you're forum chatting again.
But I warn you, you really do miss each other after a couple of weeks.
