Unions are part of the elites system, anarcho-syndicalism is NOT part of it because it acts in opposition. It prevents people paying taxes and lets them keep their wealth and also lets them have a direct say in how their labor is managed. They don't need a union, they have a DIRECT owning share and DIRECT vote. This far surpasses the union movement in all respects, so please...give it a rest Gue.
In addition to the other stuff, which I completely agree with, I just wanted to mention something about unions.

When I first became a Civil Sevant (*runs to bathroom....hurling sound registers in the distance*)...excuse me...when I got my contract of employment, this must have been only a few days after I've joined, I have never forgotten one specific phrase that was written on it.

"We encourage you to join the trade union".

I instantly decided that I would never join a trade union, and while I was there I observed unions in my particular 'workplace' offering absolutely no legitimate resistance to anything. They'd take people out on strike every so often, which achieved nothing. This guy was the head of the PCSU union at the time:

Guess what...he's still the head of the PCSU! I don't think they've ever achieved anything. I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him. I assure you he won't have to worry too much about his heating bills when he retires, though.

In 2011, his total package was worth £126,258 including pension contributions of £27,860.

Absolutely right. Unions today are a total joke, the one and only benefit of being a member is free (or affordable) legal representation if you get in trouble at work, if you’re lucky the union might have other superfluous benefits such as cheap accommodation for holidays or something more useful like medical/dentistry cover, but that’s pretty much it.

Unions now are bullshit. But there is a reason why Thatcher was so determined to break their power. Unions were originally a means for working class people to band together and flex their collective muscle.

It's interesting that it's basically 'common knowledge' now that back in the 70s the unions were 'too powerful' and how awful it was that people kept going on strike - all those manufacturing workers with their 'unreasonable' demands.

This doesn't mean unions are the answer - but it's a bit fucking tragic that a few decades ago the unions could give the govt a major headache and now...well now working people have been successfully atomised and isolated. Fact is, we could benefit from having unions back - real ones, not ones that exist simply to make people like Dave Prentice rich.

In that respect it could perhaps be said that Mondragon is the ultimate union as they've taken control of their own labour and distribution of wealth and social benefits. Even to the extent they have their own schools, banks, healthcare, the works.

Unions are bullshit because they merely exist to offer the slaves a few more pennies for their slave labour. They offer nothing else of substance.

Well I'm in the middle about Mondragon. They're better than most and founded on a good idea, but there's been a lot of stuff come out about their dark side and exploitation of some labour abroad that consists of non members. They're better than the norm but not the answer.
Unions are bullshit because they merely exist to offer the slaves a few more pennies for their slave labour. They offer nothing else of substance.

And if you have more money and more rights at work, then that is important as that improves your life. Radical social change is preferable, but it's no good dismissing a better standard of life for working people while you dream of the revolution.
Back in the day, winning practical reforms that helped ordinary people could go hand in hand with the ideal of overthrowing capitalism for good, particularly as getting people to realise if they all get together they can win helps to instill a sense that you can do something about your situation - that's what anarcho-syndicalism was always about. The two can operate in tension, but also in harmony.
Don't forget that during the Spanish civil war it was the anarcho-syndicalist unionists that seized control of the factories and ran them
The problem with modern unions is they're toothless old grannies run by rich bureaucrats that do fuck all. We should have had a few general strikes by now. They make money off our labour - without our labour they're up shit creek. We've forgotten the power of witholding that labour. No it doesn't radically change everything, but it reminds us and them they need us more than we need them.

Totally agree that there should already have been general strikes in Britain. The fact there hasn't been shows that the unions are worthless.
General strikes are an invaluable tool, they were massively important in the downfall of Apartheid, they could be massively important in stopping this bs austerity crap.
I'm sure unionists will protest that their powers have been eroded by post Thatcher legislation...I'd turn that back on them and say summat like "shut yer faces you pathetic bunch of bastards, put up or shut up"
