I wanted forum members views on the high streets in the UK.

How did the larger multinational companies wipe the smaller businesses off the face of the high street?

Was it a conspiracy which included government,local council's and the large companies themselves?

Simple straightforward business practise did it.

When people have little money then they save whatever pennies they can and go for cheaper goods.
The small biz cannot compete because they don't order wholesale goods in the millions worth so they end up with little custom and ultimately going bust.

SME's ideally need to be looking at flexibility, they're too stuck in their ways. If a shop selling a certain product doesn't work then try a different product altogether that there is less competition on or simply change business into not even needing a shop store etc.

This was all inevitable IMHO...ultimately the world will be pwned by 1 corporation if the system itself does not change

remember when you could afford to buy quality stuff and chat to a shop keeper. they could even be a dick to you because they were their own boss.

So do you see it as an inevitable what has happened andyh?

Should the local councils have been more protective towards the small business people,after all the council is meant to look after the local people who vote for them LOL.

I to envision a future where one company owns everything,this company will be part of everybody's lives on so many levels,from birth to death.

@Batou,Yeah better i suspect for everybody,they even had to pay tax in some form and didn't have access to slaves (work fare) apart from relatives of course

It's the inevitable nature of capitalism, survival of the most profitable!

What strikes me about England is that is all same-y, doesn’t matter where you go it all looks the freakin’ same (seriously a white house here and there won’t kill you, lol) but speaking of the high street, that’s even worse the same shops everywhere you go. England to me is one huge copy-paste place. Mind you, shops repeating themselves everywhere is a global phenomenon, sadly.

But nooo.....instead they bailout banks to balance digits on screens who then pass all the money on screens back to the central banks who handed out the bailout money to the govt in the form of a loan in the first place....takes deep breath....holy frackin shit lol.
