If it's constantly expanding, doesn't that mean that at one point it would have had to start expanding from source?

Thats only if you assume there was a source :D
Our brains can't handle the concept of there always being something in existence, it had to be made or come from something else. :D

If the universe expands, that means that in those quadrants the universe didn't previously exist. So the source would be - the existing universe!

They're just talking about the expansion of matter within the universe.
The universe ofc encompasses more than just matter, it also includes total empty vacuum :D

The way its worded though is that the fabric of the universe itself is expanding and not the matter into the emptiness.

LOL!!!

So the universe doesn't expand, just the matter within?

Common sense would tell you that but not scientists, which is probably why dub has such an issue with so many of them :D

So how can we be certain that the matter-less void is infinite?

Isn't a matter less void just a void full of matter we can't perceive...hence the void?

I could never accept that space was nothing yet to get to the moon you have to cross thousands of miles of nothing to get there. If there's nothing between the earth and the moon why is it so fucking far away then?

I failed GCSE physics you'll be unsurprised to learn :chuckle:

Isn't nothing something? Or something and nothing? I'm a simple lad, I just want to enjoy my life, all these questions about time and the universe are scary :fresse:

By it's own definition it can't exist because if you can define something it is some thing.

Physicists certainly don't think of space as being 'nothing'. Rather they think of the vast majority of the mass/energy of the universe being in space. The observable bits are like a teeny weeny weeny bit of a percent of the whole. Pretty much insignificant tbh.

Ok, so the universe is made of entirely matter? Now isn't matter supposed to be expanding, and thus the universe is expanding?
Or is it only matter we can perceive that is the 'expanding universe', which isn't really an expanding universe?

The universe only appears to be expanding when it's actually our perception of our place within it that is shrinking as our knowledge of it expands thus creating the illusion....possibly :P

No doubt this will now in actuality mean I've got more weed than ever, due to the universe just being an experiment in a test tube, which is in a dream.
