It's a destructive path, but people will completely let these substances control their fate, without compromise or regrets at the time of use, maybe later when their on a lung ward, or have liver disease or in jail but not while participating.

Are we really just controlled by the physical self and instant gratification, and to weak to fight the urge to indulge.

This is one of the things that make me think us humans have a naturally evil and wicked nature, and being good is hard and unnatural for people.

Considering all the hell and suffering going on in the world addictions , crimes and perversions.

I think it is like the chicken and the egg. Do we drink etc because the world is horrible or is the world horrible because we are all alcoholic fucks?

Personally I don't drink or smoke or do drugs and tend to avoid even ibuprofen but I have my vices all the same. I think people self medicate with drink and drugs. Cigarettes are known to be made extra addictive so that is one of those tough things that once you try it its got you.

The physical addictive substances in these things are really hard for us simple minded humans to fight off once were addicted your right.

Another example I know and have known all my life people who say their Christians, but many have no idea how to explain or follow basic good toward their fellow man, other than petty jealousies, divorces, family violence and greed.

It seems not to just be substances that ruin it seems to be the lack ability to treat fellow humans in a kind and respectful way, which makes me think that we are naturally a evil, mean and selfish creature, or creation

And then at the time of a persons end of physical life many times worst case scenario happens and they suffer horribly in torment and pain, until death grips them, this I have seen more times than I like

If you think about most nature people who ride mountain bikes, eat fruits, nuts and trail mix types don't have these problems.

I would say 70% of people are not addicts to tobacco, alcohol, and drugs but the 30% that are really suffer.

Having known alot of real successful weed smokers that stay away from ciggs, alcohol and drugs i disagree.

Most humans are not naturally evil, mean or selfish creatures but if you hang around bitter people you will suffer.

I try to follow the path of nature and biking and no drugs.

But I do disagree with your thought that most people are of a loving and kind nature, plus economics plays a huge part in a individuals temperament.

Fresh air and swinging on a rope they didn't even recognize any symbolism in that back then.

This is the way minds become in the self destruct mode and the pleasure tater woman feels will kill her eventually if she doesn't grab hold of her senses.

I would not like to be next in the loo/bathroom after she has unloaded a bowel full of cheesey potatos . :O

Give it 10 mins? Best leave it an ice age or two.

Back in the day when I was a married fella my sister in law was known for only eating frozen potato waffles and processed ham. Thankfully I never had to use the loo/bathroom after her. :D

Absolutely Rick.

What people don't realise is, their general outlook into the paradigm has been a plethora of altered images, to the extent that they cannot bring theselves to look inside the hole, because they might see themselves staring back at them, so the auto responce is to find ways of escaping reality, of course we both know, its still going to be there when we return to the paralell.

Here is a poem to explain things, it will hurt a few.

I smoke, all my male role models in life have smoked, i actually enjoy smoking, it gives you a chance to stop running around for five minutes light up a fag and contemplate things.

I struggle sometimes to look in that mirror but maybe this year is the one to fix that. Already started actually, but as I said not long ago, where it goes and how far is anyones guess at the moment.

They help people forget reality, cope, or make them happy. But there are always long-term side-effects.
Sometimes people claim drugs make them more aware, or "Awakened" but I haven't believed that, even for a second. I know enough people whose lives have been destroyed by drugs to think otherwise.
Personally, I abhorr the stuff, but what other people do is not my business.
Call me by any name, any way it's all the same.

'The Guy In The Glass" is brilliant poem! Brilliant! I've never read it before, great, bookmarked, damn, I have to write it down somewhere...

But it reminded me of things. All nasty stuff what I've said and done. Making peace with oneself is not easy thing to accomplish. Which brings me on topic. I get addicted easily to things, maybe because I'm naturally interested about my surroundings... One thing goes above all in this, ciggies, you guys remember a while back, last spring I quit smoking because my lungs went terrible when birch was flowering, asthmatic lungs + birch pollen allergy + cigarettes = disaster.

I was four months of the stuff. Then I began smoking again. I noticed my nerves were on a brink of collapse, no physical problems what so ever, but mental shit, a ton of shit. It all went away when I started to smoke again. I guess I really am an addict in a way.. At one time I almost got addicted to booze, luckily I noticed it early and cut my drinking to a fraction what I used to drink. Knowing how easily I get stuck with stuff keeps me away from other drugs than ciggies and caffeine.

About ciggies, I can really say I enjoy it at times, some times it's a chore, a forced behavior. I can easily be without, but with terrible mental state.. I dunno, people seem to have some kind of (natural?) urge to get bit off this world with substances. I know many nearly full blown alcoholics who really seem like they love their booze to the death if that's what it takes. What makes this happen? Devil knows... But when I used to drink many times a week, I really didn't like it, it was like something to fill the gap, something to put my mind on to, sort of escape route. At that time I had several issues in my life which I wont discuss here, but I really didn't like that kind of nearly everyday drinking a bit. I've seen what it does to people, quite few of my close relatives are, or have been alcoholics, it's not a pretty thing to watch. It's sad and very depressing. And these people usually don't know how to answer the question why do they drink... Or they avoid it. I dunno, tis a hard subject to talk about. :(

That poem made me stand up and face reality about twenty years ago, after the military years took their toll, what we all saw in NI was the clincher for me, shortly after getting married, and a few months away in the south atlantic, from my new wife and baby son, Luckily my life before saved those days, andgood old family values and a cultured following was the key.

An old faviorite film of mine given to me by Gris says it all, at the end he says, it is what we create and make by our own hands, that gives us a way of life, these or any hand skills is what makes or breaks us, to witness what I have constantly being sharing with the throng, watch the film, then take a good look around us.

It isn't difficult to comprehend, I think. People drink, smoke & take drugs because those things are enjoyable. Those activities only become a problem if done excessively, at which point, yes, they're seriously life threatening.

When done in moderation, I'm of the opinion that a little of what you fancy does you good. There's a bit too much condemnation sometimes, whereby I think we're supposed to feel guilty about every little pleasure. I refuse to. You can deny yourself every pleasure if you wish - you're still going to die in the end.
