Kind of inspired by Rick's movie thread this is.
Have you ever been moved emotionally by music, not really as a reminder of someone, or something like that, though you can talk about that if you's want...but more moved by the music itself?

I was listening to Beethoven's 9th the other day, the emotions came at the third movement, the adagio bit, at one point I actually cried. As a piece of music, it is so tender and sad, I actually felt...like the music embraced me, wrapped it's arms around me, kind of difficult to explain, but that has never happened to me before.

Great innit :D

I am moved by music all the time on many different levels and have been for a long time. I use it to go on 'journeys' regularly and I'd go as far as saying I need it like a junkie needs a fix.

Yes it is great :D

I've had music give me the old shivers down the spine, goosepimples, I've had music kind of make me feel sort of...I don't know slight emotions, can't explain :chuckle: but never has a piece of music reached out to me the way Beethoven's did the other day, it kind of melted my heart :emb: it was like being wrapped in a warm blanket, but had an element of sadness to it as well, but it didn't make me feel bad, or depressed.

Journeys...kind of like meditation?

Probably yeah. But not pre planned or anything... it just happens if that makes sense? :)

I used to argue with the ex using music :chuckle:

Nirvana's All Apologies was a fave.

I also use music to get me in certain frames of mind; pre-demo, pre-clubbing, pre-football....

Music's ace! :D

I've been moved by music my entire life and long may I continue to do so.

The layers of classical pieces make my head spin. Fucking marvelous stuff.

I'd argue there is no other external influence upon our mood that comes close to the power of music.
None.

That why it is used so effectively in advertising, cinema and ceremony.
Imagine the service at the Cenotaph with a Steel or Samba band kicking out the jams.
Who's staying sombre with that vibe going on?

Agree with all the above.

And when there's music on I don't like - the stuff that my daughter plays that makes me feel old, cause I hear myself saying, "Turn that crud down or off" - it makes me feel agitated or sullen.

Ave Maria...Schuberts version in German. It doesn't seem to matter who sings it, even if they;re only half decent it always brings a twinge :)

This songs my all time fave, the fact this lad sings it and his situation only makes it that more poignant.
The day John Lennon died we lost something very precious.

If I had to have religion I'd choose this ............
Stuff gives me shivers.
We staged a performance with these ladies and man they are the real, inspiringly, lovely, humbling, deal.
They give off scary sparks.
No nonsense, the elder members marched alongside MLK, took the hits, kept their eye on the prize and did the long walk home.

Listen to the whole thing please but particularly when the congregation chip in around the 1:55 -ish mark.

It's hard to stay an atheist around these ladies. :D

Marc Cohen nailed it in Walking in Memphis
"She said, "Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said, "Ma'am, I am tonight!"

We may be able to argue and tussle amongst ourselves but SZ's taste in music, across endless genres, does tend to kick ass.

I feel privileged to be sat here listening to the pieces you all share.
Thank You! :)

Right, that's enough of that touchy-feely praise shit.
Get back to being a soulless shower of bastards tyvm.
