I was thinking while walking in the snow today...why are feet a bit rubbish?

In terms of evolution, I can appreciate that they may have changed somewhat as we developed tools and clothed ourselves, but that still doesn't really answer my question.

Why did they start off so naff in the first place?

Even with a thick layer of skin and fur on them, they'd be next to useless in a cold climate. Things like this and dodgy night-vision seriously make me question if we are actually 'of' this beautiful planet we call home.

Interesting thoughts there Abs.

But we evolved to needing socks and boots now, maybe our ancestors had leathery feet and more hairy feet, a bit like Sketty has.

I'd never have put Sketts down as being part Hobbit. Oh, wait a minute! These hairy feet - are they attached to her ankles, or did they once belong to Frodo and she now owns them in a similar way to which one might own, say, a necklace?

Feet are incredible things, the amount of adjustment they go through whilst walking, balance, all that... running as well, the amount of flex and spring, the power they produce. Feet are boss.
