Golding made a very poignant and relevant comment about his other great work, The Lord of the Flies.

He said, ''In the end, Ralph & the other children were saved, and that was very well for them.....but who is going to save the adults?''

;)

Our behaviour changes according to our environment..that IS human nature in a nutshell.
Epigenetics. Its all well known and documented science.

You obviously behave differently if you're an innuit than if you're a new yorker because both have different environments. They even have different physical aspects because they're environment is radically different.

I never knew you were a racist andy

And yet humans are far more cruel and barbaric than any wild animal.

We are not part of nature DG, we are the animals, torture ourselves and nature herself.

Its akin to a universal Botany Bay.

When, or if we recognise that, something might change for the whole.

This is what really fucks me off with people in the west sitting on the pc complaining how hard done by they are.
Your free to post your thoughts online
Free to go to the local supermarket and stock up on some grub
Free to fuck off on a plane or catch a boat or train to most locations in the world.
Lets see what shit hole I end up in next. Ill get you a ticket for a visit, then come and complain to the locals about your gripes ;)

I'm sure the people I was giving out food parcels to over Christmas would love the opportunity of a ride on a boat or plane.

It's certainly true that in comparative terms in the West there is an overall far higher standard of living than many parts of the world. However, relative inequality engenders an acute perception oif those that exist within one's immediate environment. And somebody living in a grimy Salvation Army hostel in the North West - the kind of people I spend a lot of time around - don't give a fuck about your jaunts abroad.

LOL ...straight from the horses mouth ie you.... They have not got the luxery of a safety net or hostels
Ask them the background see how many ex mil are there. Dont talk shit to me about being homeless I know the apple about all that.

Its always the same shit from people its "relative". Well actually its not as in most of Africa they have a very good chance of being killed, the fucking creepy crawlies are not to friendly either.

Yeah...people in hostels or sleeping on the streets in northern England in winter have a luxury safety net...nobody else has ever lived but you...people in another continent have it tough so nobody else is allowed to have it bad...*yawn*

Actually, relative has a lot to do with it and is really just common sense. People quite obviously see what else is directly around them, while what they see on telly or whatever is somewhat distanced. If people see other people having access to things they cannot acquire whilst simultaneously being told they should want to acquire them, then this quite obviously has an impact. This is beyond people who struggle with quite fundamental necessities. William Godwin pointed this out back in 1793, so it's not a new observation.

But I'm forgetting that nobody truly understands life as you do...having seen and done all and all that.

What's that about "ex mil"?? Eh? Actually very few that I've met, many of which are quite young, but I don't see the relevance.[/quote]

Just to expand on that a little because I feel like I'm talking to somebody with a flimsy grasp of the real world, say if you encounter somebody who has lost their job and their house is going to be repossessed or whatever, it's no good saying ooooh but children starve in Africa and they have big fierce insects because that is irrelevant to them. Indeed, however bad you have things, you can pretty much always find somebody who seemingly has it worse than you. Somebody in an African country eking out a living constantly on the edge of starvation might have it better than somebody having their genitals electrified in an Egyptian torture chamber. That doesn't make their life a gala of wine and roses. Though some kind of perspective is a good thing - nobody likes somebody complaining their life is hell because they can't afford a new BMW - at the time if you go round saying ooooh but somebody else has it worse you enter an infinite regress of pain where it becomes a kind of competition to say who has it worse.
It's also really fucking stupid to regard people who have really shit lives as some kind of benchmark. I'd say it's far more productive to concentrate on improving things and fighting for something better than go round saying ooooh well at least my knackers aren't being removed with a rusty hacksaw when your benefits are cut, your wages reduced or your services axed. Indeed, you seem to have the attitude that people should be pitifully grateful for whatever bullshit is foisted on them just because somewhere else somebody might be getting blown up. That's retarded.

The tech is available, the know how, there's just not the will yet but it'll come eventually. Perhaps not even in my lifetime but I see it as being inevitable.
They'll look back at us in the future as being primitives and rightly so tbh.

The only thing stopping abundance is the profit motive and the profit motive creates the crime we see. Pretty basic stuff tbh and obvious as fuck but thats the extent of the wool thats pulled over isn't it? :)

If I fancied the idea of building a hospital then I'd join in. Chances are I'd prefer the idea of running a farm or maybe driving a truck or maybe flying a plane, whatever floats my boat. If people can literally do whatever they want then they'll queue up to get the training and enjoy it, money wouldn't be in the way anymore, no doleys, no benefits system, no daily wail, no divide and conquer, no chavs, the list just goes on and on and on.
It has to be scientifically proven to work though, there has to be proof of concept for people to be convinced in decent numbers and thats inevitably going to take money as its going to start a part of this system.

Wait, so how can you get rid of all the chavs you guys speak of? dress code change?

lol :)

Partly my sense of humour there :)
You get rid of them by giving them something to live for instead of idling time away outside the corner shop drinking white lightening.
Who wouldn't want to do allsorts of things is money wasn't an issue?

The reason why they do what they do is simply down to lack of incentive. Whats the point? I have to agree with them when they say they'll earn a pittance and have nothing to show for it, I'm not surprised they're growing in number. Its inevitable.
Unemployment is essential for our present economic system to work, scarcity is essential for it to work, stupid bank bailouts are essential for it to work, the whole shebang is self serving nonsense. Its really childishly simple tbh.

I never heard of white lightening before but i assume it's some kind of UK malt liquor and i think i get the point....Lmao

The answer to the bit I bolded is no, we couldn't live without it....hence we are part of it and tied to it as I said.

So you see where I'm coming from too yes?

Nature could of course live without us, and someday no doubt will.

I do, as much as I would like to see things work, I know in my own mind, one entity will have to loose the race, but I will do my share of trying any way, one good cancels out ten.bads in my book. As H say we will either evolve or die out.

Remind you of anyone?

Man on the Train: Hey, are you a dreamer?
Wiley: Yeah.
Man on the Train: Haven't seen too many of you around lately. Things have been tough lately for dreamers. They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore. It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language. Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists. And the dreamer is banished to obscurity. Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too. By dreaming, every day. Dreaming with our hands and dreaming with our minds. Our planet is facing the greatest problems it's ever faced, ever. So whatever you do, don't be bored. This is absolutely the most exciting time we could have possibly hoped to be alive. And things are just starting.
