Just watched it and wasn't impressed. I've seen it before and knew I didn't like it, but I couldn't remember why.

It was just like a watered-down/extended version of the first (which was classic, imo). There are also some inaccuracies and plot holes that make me unhappy, like the disappearance and no mention of the eldest daughter from the first film (the actress that played her may have died in real life, but still).

Also, some of the spiritual guff was a bit wanky.

Sequels...

Yeah, the original was one of my favourite films. What's that little psychic woman called - Tangina or something.

It's years since I saw the sequel, but I seem to remember not liking it as much as the first. Don't ever bother watching the 3rd - it's very poor indeed - no continuity, and just naff in every way, I thought.

They've remade Evil Dead - and from what I know about it it seems they've tacked on some bullshit story and crammed in every horror film cliche of the intervening 30 years down to the sole surviving female lead archetype (which people will probably love as it keeps everything nice and safe), they remade Nightmare on Elm Street (not watched), there was that bullshit Thing prequel that sucked, they've remade Total Recall (not watched)...the list goes on and on - they even remade fucking Fright Night for God's sake.Soon they'll be remaking Teen Wolf and Vamp or something. Can't these people think of anything new??????

I want to make a film where some Hollywood execs find an old abandoned 80s video rental shop in the middle of the woods (just because it has to be the middle of the woods) while searching for long lost films to remake. They awake the spirit of 80s cinema who hunts them down one by one and chokes them to death with 80s film scripts.

And yeah. Poltergeist II wasn't much cop but III makes it look like a masterpiece.

It's not like you can even use the excuse that everything has already been done, because that is bollocks. There are millions of talented writers out there, not to mention all the fantastic stories that haven't even been told yet.

A lot of it is to do with product placement and advertising, imo. There is so much hype already if it's a remake, which is what they're after. The film itself is usually dire and not a patch on the original, but it is an opportunity to flog a load more tat to the next generation, I suppose?

I shall ponder your eighties store in the woods further. This idea pleases me greatly...I think it would make a fantastic script.

It's like they've run out of new stories, Dogsmilk. I'm with you - I hate it when they remake films that were boody good the first time round.

@ Abs - I was about to slag that film off too, but then realised it's 'The killer inside' I was thinking of. Nasty!

I can't wait when Disney goes and remakes the orginal Star Wars trilogy....

OK...last film of the night is American Evil starring Bradley Cooper. If this is no good then I turn my back on all films made after the nineties for good.

Apparently, it's not a remake, prequel or sequal, and it isn't filmed in that annoying, shakey hand-held camera format that we've all become so used to lately.

Plus, it's got Bradley in it who quite frankly, is just sex.

First time i watched it (the first one) was at a youth club when I was 15/16, went home, made a sandwich in the kitchen, went to the livingroom then went back to kitchen and the 3 kitchen chairs were piled up on top of the table. I was the only one in the house

The house was haunted but , still, that freaked me right out , I cant really watch any horror films now

I remember one from when I was about 8/9 that gave me constant nightmares called 'The Devil rides again'?

I watched saw for the 1st time last year and managed ok with that, I thought it was quite good
