I never seen your thread, but freedom of speech issues certainly have people disappearing.

What I mean by top down, is mainly mods being able to make a decision if necessary. Also when "bringing someone to task" to do it in less aggressive ways. I don't see anything wrong with a friendly mod note on a thread if things go a bit dodgy.
I will be taking things to PM in future if a disagreement arises. As long as all parties concerned keep things off threads.

My point is that the mods are elected to act on behalf of the users, therefor the users in this situation are 'the top'.

In situations where there is disagreement, mods not stepping in just allows said disagreements to perhaps linger and escalate.

Mods should referee every forum disagreement?

Your rather fascist expectations of moddery may be what leads you to think it has to be 'top down'.

I'm not going to argue with you oioioi. I'm not a fascist, or a nazi, or a nan. It's not fascism, it's called running a forum. There is nothing fascist about fairness, and common sense.

I never called you any of those things.

I said your expectation of mods to ref every disagreement indicates a desire for fascist modding.

There's the nub.
Of 244 odd members there will be 244 interpretations of at what point action became 'necessary'.

Act too quick, you're a power-junkie.
Take your time to see if something will resolve itself or blow over and you're a procratinating, useless limp-wristed ...... etc.

It's a lose, lose gig.

If you keep associating me with fascism, we might end up arguing.

I don't mean ref every disagreement, just ones that might get personal and turn nasty.

To be fair, neither term would be of much help to someone in the position of having to make a call.
Again, I'm not arguing, just illustrating.

You expect the mods to be fascists. Not sure how that associates you with fascism.

What is a good indicator that a disagreement might get personal or turn nasty? I'll keep an eye out for any known indicators if you could tell me what they are.

That's why I said they're vulnerable. Damned if they do & damned if they don't, if people want to try to pick holes.

And why are people talking in riddles (again)? RA, why are you asking where Gue is, when you know fine well he was asking to be banned (literally), and then was made voluntarily inactive? Why imply there's something underhanded gone on to make him disappear, connected to freedom of speech?

And Hugo - what do you mean he isn't far away? He can't have clawed his way out of that chasm yet, surely?
