^I was just watching this part of of UK reality show of police in London.

What is the name of that show? Here in the US we have a similar show called COPS.

For the record I would be all for a gun ban here in the US if our police also did not carry guns.

That's cool that your cops don't carry guns, but is that why violent crime in the UK is so high?

Just a wee point of interest re the reliability of 'sources' etc. These papers are basically printing the same story - where has this story come from and for what purpose has it been spun in this particular fashion?



The DM version actually goes on to clarify that unlike other countries, incidences of 'affray' will also fall within these statistics.

It's all a load of bollocks anyway. It could just mean that Brits are slightly more likely to bother reporting crimes than other countries, particularly as most of us have to get written permission from Parliament to have a shit but even then, I'm not sold on the validity of these 'stats'. I'm pretty sure there are slightly more violent places than the UK on this planet right now and the fact that they are so violent probably has a lot to do with the UK too, in fact.

Guns cannot be uninvented. Someone will always be able to get one. As long as that's a possibility; I want a gun in my home. Besides, there are other ways to murder- even mass murder- and I would rather not have to try a stab someone in self defense. Just me, personally, I am a woman who lives alone and has the build of a victim. I like knowing I have a gun and am a good shot. Just a year or so ago, a man broke into a woman's house, dragging her out if the shower and dragging her into her bedroom to rape her. She had a gun by the bed.

“Space” Slime Shows Up in Somerset Following Russian Meteor Crash

The news just broke that a peculiar substance, best described as a weird-looking green slime, was found at the RSPB Ham Wall Nature Reserve in Somerset.

Under usual circumstances, biologists and wildlife researchers would be the only ones to take a special interest in this slime's showing up in said part of England.

However, given the recent meteor crash in Russia, quite a lot of people seem eager to learn more about the jelly-like substance.

This is because, according to several folktales, such slime is no more and no less than astral jelly, a.k.a. space slime, astromyxin or star jelly.

More precisely, rumor has it that such substances come from outer space, hence their only making an appearance following meteor crashes and meteor showers.

Granted, the meteor struck Russia and this slime was found in England, yet those who hold folktales very close at heart are unlikely to back down on their claims on account of such geography-related details.

Sources quote Tony Whitehead, a spokesperson for the RSPB, who made a case of how, “Although we don't know what it actually is, similar substances have been described previously. In records dating back to the 14th Century it's known variously as star jelly, astral jelly or astromyxin.”

“In folklore it is said to be deposited in the wake of meteor showers. Our reserve team will be looking out for the slime over the next few days, but if anyone can offer any explanations we'd be glad to hear,” he went on to add.

By the looks of it, piles of this so-called astral jelly have mostly been found on grass banks, at a considerable distance from the water's edge.

As well as this, most of the piles had a diameter of roughly 4 inches (about 10 centimeters).

Presently, the staff at the RSPB Ham Wall Nature Reserve is waiting for specialists to conduct various tests on this weird-looking jelly-like substance, and maybe even provide them with some answers.

Up until now, it has been suggested that the substance might be nothing more and nothing less than bacteria, fungus or toad innards.

Theres a larger proportion of London Met police who are armed, even on the beat in central london, also airport police and at some ferry ports now too.
They have armed police units in each county who are on call for when they respond to certain calls involving weapons etc.
