I have never seen such a meaningless commotion in all my life. Of all the pointless distractions I've ever come across, which is quite a lot, this is quite possibly the most stupid. It literally has no impact on anyone's life whatsoever, yet millions of people are apparently on the edge of their seat.

Probably has some relevance to Catholics who I think are about 8% of the population.

Makes a change from football, something I personally think is a pointless distraction a fuss is constantly made about. The Pope leads the Catholic church and what he decides can have a direct impact on all Catholics in the world - over a billion people I think. Some guys kick a ball round a field, get paid ridiculous sums of money for doing so and have no impact on anything other than people deciding who scored the most goals somehow means shit.
Mrs Dogsmilk regularly gets pissed off that her favoured pointless distraction, Midsomer Murders, is regularly interfered with by the pointless distraction of football.

Come to think of it, probably in excess of 90% of stuff people preoccupy themselves with qualifies as a pointless distraction.
