BUENOS AIRES: Fans of San Lorenzo, one of Argentina's most popular football clubs, are in heaven. One of their own just became pope, a feather in the cap for a team founded by a priest.

A 45-year-old worker, Marcelo Ladelfa, admitted he was bowled over by the cardinal Jorge Bergoglio's election as leader of the 1.2-billion-strong Catholic Church.

A longtime San Lorenzo fan who lived near the club, Bergoglio is now Pope Francis and, said Ladelfa, "the most illustrious person in the history of Argentina."

The pope is member number 88.235N of the San Lorenzo club, a first division team also known as the Cyclones or the Saints of Boedo.

He was born in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Boedo, where the club was historically headquartered and grew up in the nearby Flores neighborhood, where it later moved.

San Lorenzo has won 11 national titles, but those triumphs were a long time ago.

With a pope in its fan base, it now has reason to puff its chest with pride again.
I'm sure he will be most displeased to find out that he delayed the BBC's Champions League coverage.

OK....sat here having morning brew and fag...tv on.
We know the Queen and Cameron are not attending the Popes inauguration. The Queen has sent somebody waaaay down the royal line apparently. Anyways...there it is in all its glory on Sky news, continuous live coverage. So I thought, bet the same over on BBC...as even the ads between these two stations seem synchronised these days....Shock, horror! Nope....they are just running 'normal' news. Top of the list, the increased violence and deaths on the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, 2nd in line is BLAIR :O bleating on about learning lessons from our invasion of Iraq and applying those to go in and sort Syria. Then there are a couple more and then the inauguration. No live continuous coverage, just 'normal war mongering news.

Now am I missing something here?...Queenie and Cameron not attending, the BBC (government and Royal backers) not doing live coverage and talking WAR....need my second brew....something is not right here.... so in my face I just can't see it!
