That's an interesting question SB. Your body can crave sugary stuff that's bad for you, but also, quite often you crave food that's going to satisfy a nutritional need. The strong cravings you get when pregnant are supposed to be linked to what your body needs, yet during my first, I just wanted cherry scones and apple pie with cinnamon & raisin in (which I wouldn't normally choose at all) - to the point that I'd get out of bed at 2am to make cherry scones - and my second, I craved mints & marmalade butties. :conf:

I'd suspect a craving for meat would be to satisfy a need rather than being an addiction, but who knows? :dunno:

My take on it is this. I was veggie for many years. Lived perfectly healthily on it despite concurrently burning the candle at both ends with a blow torch.

I can now no longer say I am vegetarian. This is because i'll now eat meat if it would otherwise be going in the bin. Currently I have access to the daily unsold pastys of a local outlet. So I'm eating more cow than I have for a very long time.

It's my opinion that to raise an animal for meat and then have no-one actually eat it is the biggest 'insult' to decency of the whole veggie/meat thing. I don't buy meat and never will. I will kill animals when needed and have little issue with consuming them afterwards.

Largely, although not entirely, the meat industry can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I've been on farms all my life. Even the most ethical methods merely sugar the pill. The rest are just flat out abusive. If you choose to buy into that, that's your karma to live. Personally I wish no-one did.

So I'm a non veggie, self righteously 'guilt tripping' the Tesco meat eaters ;)

Meat? Love it!

The cuter and more cuddlesome the animal the better.

I don't eat ugly animals like gnu or alligator.

Guilt level currently stands at zero. Gullit level also stands at zero.

I have been a vegetarian for such a long time that I really don't remember how long I have been one. I was raised by my parents as a meat eater. My mum made various meals revolving around meat. None of them seemed honestly named though. As a child you eat a hamburger or a sausage and when you first get a hot dog you might ask "is this can actual dog"? As a child I recall eating a sausage wondering what part of the pig I was eating. I just imagined it as pig penis which was a big factor in taking the leap. I remember eating liver and finding all these "pipes" running through the liver and that when I started associating meat with dead animals. I could not imagine why anybody would eat that. I still can't really.

I remember seeing the movie Alive and reading an article in Empire magazine about the actual people who survived by eating the dead plane crash passengers. I did not blame them for that and wondered if I could do that to survive. Would I just die when nutrition was available? I don't honestly know. I don't see it as being any different really. I like animals better than people in most cases.

I always get asked "what do you eat?" as if there were just no food options without meat. It can be tough for me as I am a picky eater even before the vegetarian thing. I remember a wedding I went to where the common vegetarian option of quiche was my only option. I didn't eat until I got home.

I know I am not super healthy. I don't eat enough of the right things but I don't mean meat. I have never bought into unhealthy vegetarian bollocks. My two kids have never eaten meat. My son had his blood tested once for some reason and his iron levels were very good( I think they were surprised).

The idea of eating meat is to me is like suggesting I eat my kids. It won't happen unless you trick me and I think even if you did feed me meat telling me it wasn't I could probably tell as it makes me sick now.

We are raised eating meat. We eat what our parents eat. If you are raised cannibal that's what you would eat.

Mike Tyson is now vegan. Carl Lewis would go vegan whilst training. There are body builders and other athletes who are vegetarian or vegan. The cuteness is not an issue to me. Some meat eaters frown on eating dogs or kittens which seems odd to me. Not that I eat all vegetables, far from it, but the fact that certain animals are seen as off limits. It is interesting to ask the question.

How do we draw the line between food and pets. Some people raise animals to eat, they raise a pig for example from birth then eat it. Another person might still eat pork but not their pet pig. I don't even eat ugly animals personally.

Not that the situation really arises, but I'd do that. I don't buy leather, but I have leather trainers I was given and leather boots from when I still did buy leather. I'd have a leather sofa if someone gave me their old one. It's irrational to just waste something.

Absolutely DM. Irrational and in the case of factory reared animals, a fucking disgrace. And that's putting it mildly...
