^Andy i'm curious to know if you moving to Ireland has to do with what you are saying in post #14 of this thread.
A part of it yes.
TBH moving to Ireland was primarily just about getting somewhere to have a decent life with a wife and 4 kids.
There are decent parts of the UK but no way I could afford to live there or commute from there.
So are you saying Ireland has a better quality of life than Great Britain for the money and if so why?
Not just the money. Quality of life is about not having to worry about your wife and kids getting stabbed to pieces while you're out at work.
Ireland does have more money but only for the specific job I do.
If I was a brickie I'd be just as badly off money wise here as I would in the UK.
So you would say that Ireland is less violent than Britain and just all around more safe to live in?
I read somewhere that Limerick Ireland has the worst ghetto and the highest murder rate in all of Europe.
lmao God no.
Limerick pales in comparison to many places in the UK.
Ireland is very tame compared to the UK, don't ask me why I haven't a clue, we could probably guess as to the reasons for months on end but I doubt anyone would nail it.
The truth is probably something along the lines of multiple things all in conjunction which have only happened in the right way in specific places.
Dublin worse than Limerick for example, it should be obvious because of the larger population.
Smaller populations tend towards better social coherence.
Ireland is far far safer than the UK for that reason alone. They are culturally very similar to the UK, perhaps just a decade or so behind the UK in terms of the crap thats going on but they have thus far followed the UK as a model for governance etc.
This might be tough for an american to get their heads around but the irish are the closest to the brits culturally, then perhaps the nordic peoples of iceland/norway/sweden, then perhaps the french and the germans and the italians but the americans are actually quite alien to the brits despite sharing the same language. Thats in my personal first hand experience ofc, not what I see on TV etc btw.
I'm also not saying that one way of life is any better than another, just different is all. IMHO pretty much all ways of life and culture on this planet are fucked up. Some more obviously so than others.
