Helen Reece, a reader in law at the London School of Economics, called on Theresa May, the Home Secretary, to relax rules which automatically ban sex offenders from caring for children, saying that this could breach their human rights.

In an article in the respected Child and Family Law Quarterly, Miss Reece suggested that reoffending rates were not high among sex criminals, adding: “despite growing public concern over paedophilia, the numbers of child sex murders are very low.”

As long as they are only raping them and not killing them then........ :facepalm:

I read a long time ago that the ECHR was the one thing that caused huge arguments between the Blairs. Cherie strongly advised Tony NOT to introduce/accept it here as it would cause more trouble than it's worth....he didn't listen. Think that's 1-0 to the Judge then!

Gilly do you think Pedofiles should just be killed instead of locked up at cost to the taxpayer?

It seems you feel there is no way of them being reformed, what about those deemed pedofiles for being 16 and having a 15 yr old girlfriend, should they also be excluded from society?

Miss Reece criticised the rules for leading all sex offenders to be “tarred with the same brush,” saying that while “careful screening” was “important,” the issuing of a “blanket ban” violated the rights of criminals who wanted to adopt or work with young people.

She highlighted the case of a grandfather with a conviction for having sex with a 15-year-old dating back to when he was 29, who was refused permission to adopt his own grandchildren.

I didn't say that. I believe I've voiced my opinion on them before.

No, frankly I'd never trust one to be reformed to the point that I'd put them in a job with children. Never.

I notice you talk about a 15 & 16 year old, yet the case the silly bitch in the article cites to back her case is a bloke who at the age of 29 had sex with a 15 year old, which is rather different. However, there is a distinction in my mind between someone who rapes & tortures kids for kicks, and a substantially older person who has consensual sex with a 15 year old. They're not in the same category of predator imo, though the latter still shouldn't be trusted around that age group.

Btw, you've amended your post since I started replying to it.

Nobody was talking about 'excluding them from society', either.
